In March this year, I part exchanged my Silver MkIV TDi 100 for a a black MKV GT TDi 170 DSG. The car was a 56 plate and had the nice new GT front end, Lurvely! Since buying it, i've always felt that I didn't like it as much as my MKIV but couldn't quite put my finger on why. Anyway soon after picking it up the problems started.

First there were dash rattles, probably 3 or more. After 3 days in and out of dealership these were sorted under warranty. I thought that would be it for a while but whilst on a rattle finding run with a 'technician' in the car, the DPF light came on and so it spent another day in the workshop getting that sorted.

Next, the lights all went out on the DSG selector and so in it went again under warranty to get that sorted. Great thought I, new gear selector, rattles gone, that should be it for a while. Then I looked at the miles to next service and it was telling me I only had 500 miles to go!! A quick phone call to the dealer and it was booked in for a free service, another day without the car but that should definately be it for a whille.

Then I ordered a hands free phone kit to be professionally installed, this was duly done but it didn't quite work as advertised and actually needed another £35 quid spending in order to supply and fit an audio lead to enable playback of music from my phone.

Whilst waiting for the lead to arrive (obviously from Mars as it took about a month), some kind soul decided my car was too shiny and so keyed the back door.

Right up to date now and on Sunday my car failed to start. It just turned over and over. I called assistance and he started it by cranking it over for an extraordinary amount of time. Whilst working on my car he heard a chattering from the gearbox (I have heard it before and mentioned it on one of my many visits to the main dealer only to be told that it's normal) and he said it sounded like the dual mass flywheel was loose?

On Monday, I took it into the dealers complete with notes from Assist.

Tuesday saw a phone call from the dealer saying they couldn't find anything wrong so I had to explain exactly what happened on the phone, AGAIN!

Wednesday another phone call, your car is ready sir!

Wednesday evening I picked up my car and when querying what had been done was told that as well as having both fuel pumps changed, my car doesn't have a flywheel and the noise is a balancing shaft and it's the characteristic of the DSG gearbox! I drive away feeling a bit silly for believing the Assist man. On the way home, I decided to overtake someone on a dual carraigeway. Upon flooring the accelerator, my car spluttered and stuttered and didn't go any faster. I tried again, the same thing happened.

I hope you're still with me here?

Now I needed the car to be at my place of residence today at 9 a.m. as the audio lead, you remember, the one from Mars! had arrived, and was being fitted at said time. I don't know why I expected it to work, but I did. However, it had other ideas and still doesn't effing work as it should.

After a fairly abrupt phone call from me to the dealer, I drove my scratched, jerky, rattly, DPF filling, no MP3 playing, balance shaft rattling car; back to to them. A technician jumped in the car and went off whilst I waitied amongst the shiny new cars drinking coffee. Ten minutes later he's back and asks if I can take him out in it as he can't find anything wrong. We duly go on a fairly short run the car jerks as expected, "ah" says he, " I know what it is". On the way back to the dealers and totally stationary in a queue of traffic, some nob, runs into the back of me!

Now I'm not religious or spiritual or even superstitious but if there ever was a car that was jinxed or cursed or however you want to put it, that car is it.

Needless to say, back at the dealers I part exchanged it and pick up my new motor on Saturday. It won't have DSG as I didn't realise how much I actually like changing gear.

I guess I'm posting this for a bit of sympathy as I feel a bit peed off about it all and the money I've spent getting the phone kit fitted and scratch removed etc. not to mention the cash I've lost from the mileage i've done over 3 months and the extra insurance premium.

For those still interested after reading all this, the cause of the stuttering was, and I quote from the worksheet:-

"Fan worn through inlet hose, hose replaced"

kin ell, lots of sympathy being felt here if that helps.

had a delta turbo back into the dealers 13 times, bloody thing went sideways when you booted it.

had a guy from lancia drive at , he told me its fine .

eventually they discovered the gearbox rear mount , which sat in a big metal sphere was totally gone , no rubber at all , so the thing just shot anywhere it wanted, was scary .

by this time ,my legendary patience was totally gone , and i just wanted rid.

car was sold on and was totalled 6 weeks later, so maybe superstition may have something.

Sounds like a right horror story

What is replacing it?

I feel sorry for you. Though count yourself lucky as your not the only one. I had hell with an Octavia. Picked it up the first day of ownership, 30 miles later the engine light was one. Back to the garage the next day - sorted it. Drove home, went out in it again and the engine light came on! That was just the start. The engine light often reappeared, followed by the EPC light, bits of dashboard broke, it cut out, it wouldn't start, a coolant hose broke and left me stranded, all sorts of stuff. I had enough after 5 months and the garage swapped it luckily. That one must have been jinxed as well.

Sounds like a right horror story

What is replacing it?

Maybe CHRISTINE. lol:D

Sorry to hear that, sounds like you and the car were not meant to be together, its good that the work was under warranty, but it seems some dealers soon forget the hassle and costs of getting the car there and back all the time. Then they act as though they are doing you the favor by complying with their warranty.

Imagine how youd feel if it was out of warranty and you were paying for it all?

My dad had a laguna that had loads of problems, just out of warranty and it cost over 3000 and the fault still wasnt found out. He got rid and didnt look back.

Better to be shot of it tho, enjoy your new motor :)
