56,373 miles before a diesel car becomes worth it

Featured Replies

Diesels need no more servicing than petrol, just look at the VW variable servicing regime. Fuel costs at the pump may be slightly greater but that is outweighed by the greater mileage and less frequent fill ups.

This is true in some cases, although I think the diesel X-Trail requires slightly more servicing, but quite often diesel servicing works out to be slightly more expensive with extra filters and stuff. Also these new 140 pds seem to drink oil, although not as badly as a RX8

Whilst you can't argue with the figures for the average motorist' date=' in my case for example ...... March - to end of may this year I spent £1278 in Fuel in my impreza (got the receipts) and my insurance renewal was going to be £939 ish.

I had a couple of Imprezas around 11 years ago when they first came out, and I was much more of a girl racer. But annual mileage of around 30K and having to pay my own fuel bills (I think they were about £5,000 a year!) prompted me to swop to a Golf GT TDi. I’ve never looked back. I love diesels:orb_for_y Where's my OCTY?...Skoda?

well ill just like to say that my car is now "worth it"

dunno if thats a good or bad thing as its only 26 months old :o

Considering I've done 26k so far, it will be 'breaking even' by the time it's about 2 years old, so that's cool :)

Now on 91k, so mine has now paid for itself twice over

Shame it's not two yet :(
