You say you are renewing your rear wheels, do you mean tyres ?

Either way I think every time you replace tyres even if swapping them from other

rims you need to balance them.

You still have bearings on the rear wheels as on the front, so if there is any imbalance

it would shake the back end, and do damage to the bearings, let alone wear the tyres

quicker.

So the quick answer NO you do need to balance them

Thanks for the reply Radiotwo.

It's the tyres I'm renewing, and the fitter says that rear never need balancing which I found a bit strange.

I would use a different fitter, all wheels MUST be balanced. Out of balance wheel can wreck a wheel bearing PDQ.

I would avoid the so called 'fitter' like the plague, he is talking out his ****!!
