lowering VRS

Featured Replies

Hi can someone tell me the distance between the tyre and arch on a standard VRS?. Im thinking of getting it lowered 25mm with the Eibach springs when i can find some at a reasonable price. Do they make the ride quality much worse?

Thanks

i'm going to take a guess that the space on a standard vrs is about 60mm as mines is probably about -70mm i think and tyre into the arch by 10mm - purely a guess! but not an uneducated one.

the ride on standard is fairly firm with regards to bumps in the roas, dropping by -25mm wont change the ride by much at all in terms of harshness but will make it feel less rolly through bends.

also worth noting, the gap can depend on the age and state of the car. My 131000 mile car next to my mates 20000mile car shows this. He was convinced i had lowered mine! Was defo a noticable difference.

Lowered on Eibachs...

Didnt notice that much difference to ride quality. TBH, i thought it was slightly better than stardard...

looks better lowered. Are the springs on a standard Vrs black?

Thanks

Looking good Mikey!

Did you chop down the bumpstops when you fitted the new springs?

Ta :D

I thought you only had to trim the bumpstops when fitting springs and dampers (FSD's etc) so i never bothered... Never had a problem with them

Gotta go down at least 50 for it to look respectable imho

We'll have to disagree on that. Mine is dropped on Eibachs with FSDs and I'm quite happy that it looks standard to most people's eyes with a thoroughly acceptable ride quality and the handling upgrade is enormous.

I'm running Bilstein PSS9's on my Passat and I've only dropped the car 30mm over standard because anything else looks like the suspension is broken. Also, while it can be made to handle better with a bigger drop, the ride quality is too compromised for general UK road use in my opinion (I'm doing 35-40,000 miles per year, so I need my comfort).

I have to agree as well that a car sitting on Eibachs looks good. A 50mm drop may well give the car more of a meaningful stance, but for everyday use and high mileage, im not sure the comfort would suffice!

Im perfectly happy with the Eibachs, and throw in a full tank of fuel and a few bags in the boot, and it will look lower in everyday use anyway!

here is mine dropped 50mm

Anyone got a pic of a vRS on -25mm Eibachs and standard rims?

Pref a pic in profile?

Trying to gauge if 25mm will be low enough.. I'm not a fan of 50 but 40/30 may be spot on if 25 is to high.

Looked through that thread, couldn't find a picture defiantly starting all standard except the -25mm eibachs.... I'll have another check though, thanks :)

Oh, found one! Wish the wheels were silver though, (will crack out Photoshop later) then I'd know exactly what it's look like.. seeing this pic though, perhaps a 30mm drop would be spot on!
