Felicia 1.3MPI running cool

Featured Replies

Hi,

My wife's 2000 (W) Felicia (1.3 MPI) seems to have started running cool. It's always warmed up quite quickly and settled a little under half way up the temperature gauge, but I noticed the other day that the needle's barely moving off the stop under normal conditions. When in traffic on a hot day it goes up to a little above mid-way, and she tells me the rad fan works ok. It seems to drive fine.

I'm guessing that either the temperature sensor or gauge are on their way out or the thermostat is stuck open. Assuming no other ideas(?):

1) Is there just one temperature sender to feed the gauge and the ECU (I know there's another for the rad fan)? If so, how can you test it and where is it?

2) How can you test the temperature gauge?

3) Is replacing the thermostat as simple as unbolting the housing and dropping in a new stat? Do you need to bleed or drain the cooling system or anything? I've seen mentions of a "MK 2" thermostat (Skoda Felicia 1.3 Mpi Thermostat-MK2 VERSION !!!! - £19.99 : Skoda Parts, Jorily, The Skoda Parts Shop - Probably the UKs largest independent skoda parts supplier) - what's different about it?

Many thanks in advance,

Tim
