Climate Control - Dealer says they all do that.

Featured Replies

Press econ and lcd says econ.

Alter fan speed, on some settings lcd says AUTO and econ, other settings just econ.

Also fan speed alters - a lot - I understand this - but in econ it ramps up the settings on the LCD as well. (and AUTO comes on along with econ) Keep turning it down, keeps ramping up.

Battle of man v computer.

Dealer says normal........they all do that.

I say its wierd and can I have manual a/c in my next car please.

BTW its a brand new car.

That is how climate control works, you should in theory set your desired temperature and press auto and let the car sort out the rest. Econ mode turns off the AC unit to save a small amount of fuel.

If you want to adjust it yourself you can do by pressing any of the directional buttons on the climate unit and adjusting the fan speed by yourself, put if you set it to what the unit recomends then it will say auto, but if you adjust it again it will go out of auto mode.

Yes I know how CC works - I have it in my Alhambra. BUT - if I press econ in that, it stays in econ - AUTO doesnt light up by itself and you cant have AUTO and econ lit together.

In the Fabia, AUTO and econ light together on selected (and automatically ramped) settings. i.e speed 1 econ - speed 2 econ and AUTO -speed 3 econ - etc

I cannot stop the fan from ramping up the lcd settings incessantly in econ (In the alhambra the fan speed MAY ramp but the settings dont).

Pressing AUTO everything is fine.

Looks like a firmware issue to me.

Complicated to explain

Mine does that and my old Mk4 GTI with climatronic did it as well. I think it just mean that it trys to maintain a degree of temp control in econ mode.

My old polo GTi did exactly the same which had climatronic.... I'd say the dealer may well be right.

Cheers

Dave.

Not been to war with a mark 2 octy but in my view pressing econ leaves it in automatic with the air con turned off, so it will do its best to mainatin temp but if it is hot the temp in the car will rise.

Independant of this you shouls be able to manually adjust the fan and it stay at the speed you set. The car will then control the incoming temp and vent location to try and maintain temp.

Now a lot of climate control will revert to full auto with a small change, ie pressing econ to turn aircon back on may revert back to full auto (Auto displayed) and overide the fan, again window demist tends to pull the system back to full auto.

You can have auto and econ at the same time on the newer climate controls, its the same with my octy2. Basically with auto and econ engaged, the unit will do its utmost to maintain the current selected temperature without the use of A/C. This can result in the fans running at max speed as the system struggles to maintain the internal temp without A/C.

In my octy2, it stays on Auto all the time without econ. Then just select the desired temp, and forget about it. The fuel saving between econ and normal is so small on newer cars the econ function is more or less redundant.

The dealer is correct from what I can gather and the climate is working correctly.

Auto means it's trying to AUTOmatically get the cabin to the temperature you set, but will have difficultly do to ECON being on (i.e. no air conditioning).

Common sense really...

There is no true "manual" mode in the climatronic.

My Octy II with dual zone climatronic generally blows too hard for my liking when on auto. By turning down the fan by a notch or 2 the unit still varies the fan speed around the lower setting - it doesn't stay on my setting.

So it looks as if everything is OK with my a/c - thanks for all comments.

Like eccleshill, I find the fan speed always tends to go too fast (and is noisy) - I am quite prepared to put up with a bit of poor temperature control for the sake of peace and quiet.

I much prefer the semi automatic a/c on the basic model (I didnt spec the cc - I got I because the only car available had a function pack fitted) - I dont think a lot of thought has gone into the CC - it could so much more user friendly and flexible (for the sake of a bit of decent software) At least on my old Alhambra, speed 1 is always slow (and not rampable) - in the Fabia its "Computer knows best - stand aside human!"

I also find the rotary controls on the Fabia CC are ridiculously over sensitive. You need a surgeons touch to make a one notch change on speed or temperature. Rather daft.

Try running with the front windows open for the first couple of minutes as that will expell most of the hot air meaning the CC doesn't need to work as hard lowering the temperature to the set level. I always used to do this on hot days in the polo and the climatronic wouldn't have the fans set to high for very long before automatically lowering down to a more normal level. I always used to leave the climatronic on auto too as there really was a negligible difference in mpg.

Don't forget these kind of systems aren't designed to be constantly tampered with. It's like the air-con in an office etc... where it should be left to get to the reqd temperature when people keep playing about turning it on/off it never gets the upper hand on the overall temperature.

Cheers

Dave.

i know its not the same lol.. but on my mazda auto+econ mode switches the air-con on and off at 30 second intervals... hardly nice on the compressor lol
