Do people just buy the roofbars (the cross bars) for the octavia estate from the dealer or are there better or cheaper options elsewhere?

Hot sure what the Skoda bars are like, but I always use Thule products - not the cheapest but in my opinion the best quality and styling!

I bought a pair of Atera SIGNO ASR 100cm aluminium bars from The Roof Box Co here. The bars are oval and look very classy, but being that shape you may need to buy adaptors depending on what you intend fitting to them. (Simple slot in pillar adaptors are needed for a roof box, for instance). Atera supplies Audi, BMW and Mercedes amongst others.

The Roof Box Co is a very friendly and efficient company to deal with. They offer a 90 day exchange scheme for roof boxes where, if you wish during that time, you can exchange the box for a different one like I did (I opted for a larger box having used mine for a holiday). They pick up the return carriage costs and supply packaging to return the box in if, like me, you have thrown the original packaging away.

Skoda x-bars for Octavia are indeed made by Thule - they are the lockable variety .

Can the thule cross bars be acquired for less than skoda ask or should I just let the dealer have more of my cash?

I would definately go for the after market option, seeing as Thule make the things anyway.

Do a search with google, your bound to save yourself a few bob.
