I need a little advice! Well a lot actually!!!

Hi all.

I've come to pick your brains.

I've currently got a VW Golf GT Sport 2,0 TDi, got under 10k on the clock from new in November 07, but I've got the feeling it's a "jonah" car, I've had several near misses, it's been vandalised three times and I've just got a really bad feeling about the car, so its got to go!

I'm now deciding on which car to go for and the more I look the more confused I get!

I think I've more or less whittled it down to.

1/ Octavia II 2,0 TDi CR vRS 170bhp - Fully loaded

2/ Octavia II 2,0 TFSi 200bhp - Fully loaded

3/ Yeti - Spec TBC

Now I know that they're quite different cars, but I just don't know which way to go, I'd like to know what you think, as you can see I don't do a fantastic mileage, we're talking about an average of 4,500 some years, less on another, it could be more next year, depending on my job location!

I'd also like to know about the DSG boxes, are they any good, are they very reliable etc, etc...

What are the engines like in the Octavia II, especially the TDi CR is it good & quiet for a diesel compared to the PD engine that I currently have in the Golf.

Which do you reckon I should go for the petrol or diesel? I love the economy of the diesel, but I love the quietness of the petrol! I know I can't have both...

As for the Yeti, well it would be useful as I live right out in the Surrey countryside, so its 4x4 capabilities would be useful in bad weather & that large boot would be useful for the odd overseas shopping trip!

Of course I know we haven't actually go the Yeti here yet but what's your initial thoughts on it?

Your help & advice would be appreciated.

I have to make this clear I have not yet owned a skoda but no matter what make unless you do around 20k a year or above buy a petrol why?

They sound better and if you love driving this is all you need to know and you quoted 4,5k. Plus from what iI have heard the petrol turbo units are economical so do it.

I drive a MGZTV8 and had a MGZT CDTI before, no regrets, I do 10k in the MG.

Steve.

Is that the indiana jones .....................sorry but you're last film was crap.

As for the car choice 2.0T imo. For the usual reasons

HTH

Derv doesn't make any sense for you. Petrol VRS.

Normal Octy has a massive boot btw. You might want to look at a Scout if 4x4 and rough roads are in your mind.

if I was only doing those kinds of miles a year, diesel wouldn't even enter the equation. what type of driving do you do? do you even need a car the size of an Octavia?

Logic Dicates that you go for the 2.0TFSi engine as you do not do enough mileage to make it fiscally beneficial to own the diesel powerplant as it will probally take minimum of 9 years ownership to pay back the difference of the vehicle initial cost.

Therefore there is only One logical course of action and that is the 2.0TFsi engine.

As for auto vs Manual well that is a choice you will have to make, but again the amount of miles would again dictate the logical response is to suggest a manual. Though base it on taste, If you have a lot of start / stop driving in you life, there is nought better then a auto and we have a fleet of DSG's and none have given a problem, though I would expect a large bill when it come to rplacing the 2 clutches the car has.... if it gets to that. Also brakes wear quicker with a Auto.

This be my 10 cents worth :D
