Clutch pedal is too high on my Felicia? any ideas?

Featured Replies

Just acquired a 98 felicia 1300 and while it drives fine, the clutch pedal is physically 2 inches higher than the other pedals. my concern is that the bite point is also right at the top of the travel. I see there are lots of cable issues with these models, is that what i need or is it more serious? any help appreciated!

I had a Favorit years ago and i got this as i thought the Fav was great!

Ive just read this thread from deeper in this very forum, and can see how that will take care of the pedal height, but how will it affect the bite point?

You can just adjust the clutch so the pedal goes down

On more modern cars with a hydraulic clutch when the bite goes higher the clutch is on the way out.

Yeah thanks for that captain sisko, i have had fords for the last few years, and have had 2 clutches replaced (hydraulic ones). so naturally i was concerned this one has the same problem. so do i need to tighten or slacken the cable in the release fork end? or is it likely the cable itself has stretched?

I think it would need tighteningto take up any slack, but it might depend on the cable age or type.

Is it the VW type where the cable is coated with something? or a generic one where the cable is "exposed" and just covered in rubber?

The cable I have in my Favorit is from my 1.6 Felicia (where the cable is the VW coated type) fits and works great.

cheers for that. think ive got it sussed. it appears to be the vw type you speak of, has lika a corregated sheath around it to the stopper bracket on the block...the fork end is a threaded bar with a locknut on it. I must be luckier than the other folk on here, as although it appeared rusted, a bit of plusgas and a ratchet spanner got it moving. i tried both ways, and loosening the locknut did the job...pedal now sits near enuf right, and the bite is now ok. looking under the pedal, there was a return spring to pull the pedal back towards the floor that had stretched, so i took it out, cut the stretched ond off and bent the remaining end back into shape before refitting it.

End result, i can now drive it without straining ankle ligaments, and it looks right too!

thanks for the advice!

Glad you got it sussed with a bit of spring bodging too!!!

In all the years of working on older cars, i have come to appreciate the finer berits of "gashing a solution together". Improvise, Adapt and Overcome" was a motto i learned somewhere once, and it has always stood me in good stead! :D
