4 year service costs - 1.9tdi

Featured Replies

Right, how much are the dealers taking me for a ride....

£246 - 3rd variable - inc various filters, oil, fluids etc

£333 - Timing belt / water pump

£211 - Front pads and discs, surely due sometime soon after 55k miles?

£c60 - MOT

£850 - Total

Have only booked it in for the service so far but got quotes for the rest. Will go hunting round in the hope of saving a bit of cash. Any site partners or other VW specialists in Glasgow / Central Belt that could be recommended for the timing belt?

Thanks

Anyone?

disks/pads should still have life in them. Mine are on 80K miles and still ok.

service seems slightly but not much over, cambelt/pump also seems ok.

MOT, slightly over what you could get it done for elsewhere.

Do you have a Formula1 autocentre near you? sometimes they are cheaper for brakes than buying the parts and doing it yourself!

EDIT:

Just looked on their website, you don't, sorry.

Same as the third variable service just fone on my 2.0 Tdi PD140 from a main dealer.

Same quote for a cam belt change.

Mine was still on the original pads at 52000 mles and they said they were still OK.

The shocker, though, was the news that the gearbox primary input shaft bearing was well on the way out. At least £1000 for gearboc recon plus in and out labour. More if the dual mass flywheel also needed changing. The turbo was whistling as well, so time to go.

My MX5 with 110,000 miles on the clock and still going strong has been joined by a Mazda 6. After googling all the woes with modern high performance turbo diesels I've gone back to simple non-turbo petrol. The MZR unit even has a cam chain rather than belt.

Thanks all for responses

Re above - that's not what you want to hearing. Fortunately I have an extended warranty so if anything transmission or engine/flywheel related goes it'll be covered (fingers crossed). I'm pretty light on the brakes as much of the mileage is motorway so from what you guys suggest I should have at least another year on them, phew. I am amazed how long they last these days.

Mazda do seem to have long term reliability in the bag, although my mates mx5 was quite expensive to service, but never had any problems with it.

I'll try and haggle a little off the price of the service when I take it in, on the basis I'll use them for the cambelt and MOT in September.

I'm at the stage of deciding whether or not to keep it for another good few years so want to keep on top of maintenance. Whilst there are other cars on the market, there's nothing thats can do a substantially better job than the octy estate, well until the superb II estate arrives.
