New octavia (new to me) questions.

Featured Replies

Hi guys and girls!

I have just purchaced a W reg (2000) octavia GLX TDi 90. I am looking to put some items on it and wonered if I could get some of your wisdom.

I am after cruise control.

What would I kneed, is it expensive and would I have to change/remap the ecu?

Elegance alloys.

Are they the same fitment for the octavia MK 1,2 and 3?

Remote centeral locking.

What would I need, have to do and is it difficult?

VRS interior (maybe???)

Will it just fit straight in?

Thank you very much in andvance.

Savage.

sorry wrong section

Cruise - no idea.

Elegance alloys - straight bolt-on (may need new bolts).

Remote locking - no idea

vRS interior - It'll physically fit, but watch out for differences in electrical spec (convenience and safety items).

Awesome GTi will fit cruise for £149. Needs VAG COM to interrogate the ECU. Bound to be a guide somethere for DIY.

Wiring, motors and control module for the central door locking + programming key fob. Can't see it be cheap though.

vRS interior will fit but as above watch for safety items (airbags etc).

I was thinking of things like electric mirror controls, rear electric or keep-fit windows too.

It currently has c/l e/w.

You should have bought the car you wanted, it would be cheaper in the long run....

You cannot fit cruise onto a 2000(W) octy, as its not Drive By Wire which is needed to enable the cruise retrofit.

Not really an option I'm affraid as I couldn't afford the extra 30k. So this comes in as a nice comforable tottering around town second. Plus I know this car and it's got fsh and runs like new.

Maybe I wasn't clear; the vRS (also Elegance and L&K) has rear electric windows, and electric door mirrors. I'm not sure if your car does, and the rear door cards are different on cars with manual windows. Also the driver's door trims may well differ with rear electric windows and electric rather than manual mirror adjustment.

I am a little confused, You said that cruise control is not possible on this model as it's not "drive by wire" however it was an optional extra (not got) and awsome said they can do it.

There's a true speed cruise control that only works on cars with an electronic throttle; either you've got a very early electronic throttle car, or Awesome have a constant pedal depression control in mind I think. I'm certain that if they say they can do something they can do it though.

I have a 1998 1.9 TDI GLX (AGU Engine code) which I was told was drive by wire. I'm not convinced but was told that a test for this system is that while in neutral rev the engine to 2,000 rpm and once maintained, apply the break pedal with your left foot. If the engine returns to idle then its drive by wire, if not, it ain't. I am sure that this could be achieved through a mechanical method though....

I did find retro fit cruise on ebay, apparently VAG part but can't vouch for that personally, for about £65-70. I will look again and see what I can drag up.

Found this one which pretty much says to the word what I was told about checking for drive by wire and it's £65 + Postage.

One way of fitting remote central locking is to fit an alarm system with a central locking module. You could go mad and get one that you can start the engine with as well...

Hope this helps.

Did the throttle test thingy and it worked although Awsome did say it doesn't even have a throttle cable (different system). I don't know it's modern for me. I'm normally used to S110r's, estelle's and cabriolets.

Fitting cruise control on monday.

How's the cruise control working out?

How's the cruise control working out?

Rather well. In fact it feels alot smother than my dad's mk2 TDi 110 that had is from new. I like cruise control and with the miles I do It will be worth it.

£100+vat fitted (genuine VAG parts). :-) Me is a happy bunny.

Just have to say I am very happy with the cruise control that Awsome did on my car.

I think it's more responsive up and down than my dads tdi 110 elegance.

Did you make any decisions with the remote central locking? I still think its probably more economical to get an alarm system with a central locking module. Cheaper still would be to get the other half to walk out into the rain before you and open the car so you can just dash out and get in.

What car did you really want that would have been £30k more???

Thats what I did with my last car but she got upset and hit me.

Decided that the remote central locking will be too much effort just to get it so I'll give it a miss at the mo.
