Potential Octavia owner

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm really thinking about buying a new Octavia Estate 1.8 TSI but am also attracted by a

used Audi A4 Avant! So it's either a new car or a 2/3 year old one. Really undecided at the moment.

Cheers

welcome to briskoda

Welcome to the site mate, if you get a Skoda you will not be dissapointed, plus they are as reliable as an Audi for half the running and repair costs!!

Hiya.

As Duff says, but against that the Audi has done its first year depreciation hit, so you might get a better percentage trade-in. I'd go for whichever has the more comfortable seats.

agreed, not only is the skoda cheaper to by, but also cheaper to run and repair than an Audi. i was thinking of an A3 before i got my Octy and i'm glad i didnt get one!

Hi servo, and welcome.

You do not say what it is that you are looking for. Moving from a Focus you will notice a huge size increase, and the flexibiility that this brings.

Without more to go on the best I can suggest is to go and sit in examples of each, and see where the bits you usually carry around will go. Test drive them if you can for as long as you can, to see how comfortable they are. Do it with YSO (your significant other) and any family you have, any golf or fishing gear or the like. Check the measurements and see which fits your garage or drive (the audi is bigger). Check what is included in the spec, and what matters to you. You will generally get more from a Skoda. I've uploaded a spreadsheet from 2005 (around the age of the car you are looking at) which has the then What Car information on both cars plus a few extra bits.

I looked at both an Octavia and an A4 last time and for this change, and both times I have gone for the Octy.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm got a 6.5 year old focus tdci estate.

looking for something more solidly built, nicer seats and door mirrors that don't rattle!

I have just checked the dimensions and the octavia is a bit bigger than the focus, but as you say the A4 is longer.

Want a car that is comfortable and quiet (going for petrol rather than diesel as we don't do that many miles) Kids have just gone to university but need to take their stuff there and back once a year. Need an estate to go to bike events at weekends.

Audi A4 is a really nice looking car, loads of diesels around but very few 1.8T petrols.

welcome. The only thing i would say against the Audi A4 is the sheer numbers out there. It really is a no brainer to go for something more unique, of the same build quality and IMHO better value when you consider both purchase price and future running costs. have you considered a nearly new petrol vRS ?

I found Octavia more comfortable - I do not lik ehte Audi seats taht slide a bit forwards under your knees.

The Octy is very quiet, and mine is diesel. THe only real noise is teh tyres, and that is a problem for every car now.

Welcome. I had the chance to drive an A3 for a week and thought the build quality compared to my Octy was poor. It's not rocket science to say which I'd go for. Mine's diesel too and 600 miles out of tank when driven carefully is capable.
