anti theft alarm

Featured Replies

hi guys

i have an octy 2009

i dont know if it is equiped with an anti theft alarm or not

i have a small red lamp flashing in the door when the car is closed

how to know if i have anti theft alarm or not

The door light flashing is not indicative of an alarm, all that shows is that the deadlocks are engaged. Alarms vary by market and model, I am not sure what the spec of the octy is in Egypt.

thx mannyo , i have also strange behaviour

if i open the car with the remote and dont open any ddor within 30 sec it locks which is supposed to be done in case of anti theft alarm

but when i open the door and dont start the engine within 15 sec nothing happens , which indicates no anti theft alarm :)))))

i dont know

The door autolock function is standard on the octy even if no alarm is fitted.

One way to check for a factory alarm is to look at the drivers side pillar where the seatbelts are mounted, about 1/2 way down on the inside there should be a small button which when pressed disables the interior alarm sensors.

i dont have this button, so i dont have the anti theft alarm

ok thx a lot for helping

Your car will have an Alarm

IIRC New Cars are not allowed to be sold without an alarm. Although i could be wrong

My Fiancee has a Golf that has an Alarm but no disabling Interior monitor button.

Which Model of Octavia do you have? Classic, Elegance, vRS (or in the case of a Facelift) S, SE, Greenline, Elegance etc

The OP is from Egypt and different markets have different regulations.

Plenty of cars still sold in the UK without alarms, only the immobiliser is a requirement here.

Ok I stand corrected :D

I seem to remember with my 2008 Octy that I can roll down the windows, get out and lock the doors with the remote and then put my arm into the car through the open window and hey presto the alarm goes off!

Easiest way to test if there is a working alarm is to put someone into the car, lock the car with the remote and the alarm should go off when they move about in the car.

moley beaten me to it, sit in the car lock it with the blip and wait 30 seconds then start moving, if the alarm goes off then it will answer your question.

Aye - it was mandatory Immobilisers in 1998, but no ruling on alarms.

With the cheapest alarms being just that - cheap, I'm quite surprised we haven't seen those mandatory too.

Autolock works fine for me.

Moving in the car tells you whether you have an alarm with motion sensors or not - it is possible to have an alarm without motion sensors (and it seems like the OPs car doesn't have a switch for motion sensors, so probably doesn't have motion sensors).

I would try locking the car with the remote, then unlocking the driver's door door using the key in the door, open the door and wait (don't put the key in the ignition). If it has a Skoda alarm the siren should go off within 15 - 30 seconds, if it doesn't have a Skoda alarm then nothing will happen.

If it has an aftermarket alarm then anything is possible and the above test won't tell you anything definitive.

You wont ever do, because cheap alarms are so cr*p and go off all the time, such that they cause a nuisance and are ignored by most people.
