Sticky Boot

Featured Replies

Hi All

My boot lid is a bit stiff.

What can i do to make it better.

Thanks

Use a lubricant with an addative such as WD40 with PTFE or silicone or graphite.

When the WD40 carrier evapourates dries out the addative continues to provide friction reduction. The graphite addative is great for lock mechanisms and is used by double glasing repairers on the lock mechanism / sliders.

Sorry to bear bad news but your struts are going south, you can lube them but it's a common fault on Sups and Passats, good news is they don't cost a lot and are easy to fit.

Stiff boot hinges is yet another age old Passat problem VAG have not rectified.

There is no problem with the gas struts, but dear old VAG have bumped the hinge pin rivets too hard and made the pivots stiff. I believe modified hinges were available if you have the patience...

I oil the hinge pivots sparingly with very light oil (sewing machine oil is best) about once a month and wipe off all surplus. This keeps the hinges free.
