Running in forth without going below 20mph?? H.E.L.P

Featured Replies

Hi, this may sound really dumb but i just got my furby vrs last week and i was driving along the road in forth gear took my feet off everything and the car felt it was still accelerating well not really accelerating just not going below 20mph i was wondering if this was normal. I know many moons ago when i was doing driving lessons i was in a car that would do this but is this normal in a VRS? Thanks for your time and again i know im stupid lol.:(

Yes, you can put it in 6th and it'll run at 30mph at tick over revs. Wouldn't advise it though

It's the anti-stall feature, unless you're especially terrible at clutch control it is nearly impossible to stall the PD diesels in my experience.

mine's a piece of p*ss to stall

Really? Maybe I never try hard enough :D

Stalled my Fabia once, made a very loud bang!

Most diesels will do it, its just down to the sheer torque that it will just pull the car along.

You can pull away in 1st and change all the way up to 6th gear without touching the accellerator pedal! (on a flat road). Probably not a great idea, but it does it very easily!

The solution?! Using a gear appropriate to the speed :P

Yes, it goes with a huge bang. The only way I stalled mine was going to pull away quickly, thinking I was in 1st, but it was in 3rd. It will pull away perfectly happily in 3rd if you're a bit gradual.

To the OP: that is normal.

Yup.. 30mph is the earliest I'd consider getting into 4th,. and would always drop down for any acceleration required.. Booting it in 4th from 30mph will be un-responsive and not best sensitive to your car.

What are you talking about, isn't 2nd the gear for 30? :D;)

Depends how much Diesel money you have at the time ;):D

2nd gear for 50mph isn't it? :D

Perfectly normal, and handy for motorway queues cos you can stretch your legs.

2nd gear for 50mph isn't it? :D

My car won't physically do 50mph in 2nd gear in my car, what gearbox have you got?

The ecu modifies the injection period to maintain a steady idle. Basically, as you get to idle it injects diesel and keeps doing this untill it can hold the idle.

There is however a torque limit for idle stabilisation.

NICE ONE GUYS Probles (well not so much of a problem solved

swmbo's vectra does about 80mph in second and nearly 40mph in first :)

my works van(09 renault trafic) needs 4th to hit 60

The BMW does something like 65 in 2nd I think... :)

Actually, 4th would have been a push, but a mechanically injected 1.9l diesel would handle idle in second without an idle stabilistation system.

Had a Vauxhall Nova 1.2 reading 75 mph in 2nd gear, but that was in the days before they had rev limiters fitted.

I cant hit 70 in 2nd at 8.2k rpm :D mmmmm

50 - 55mph is my redline point to shift into 3rd. I was just being a bit silly really ;)

Jason... Is that actually you in your Avatar?

64's rule! (loved those game pads)

And accurate speedometers!
