any ideas?

Possible wheel balancing issue? Probably worth having them balanced anyway. Its cheap enough.

Or, worst case scenario, an egged wheel or warped brake discs?

Its not felt through the steering wheel just the whole car :(

It could be a rear wheel, or drive shaft.....

BTW, Welcome :)

If it's the whole car shaking, not just the steering, then it could be a rear wheel issue.

Have you taken all of the tyres off and had a good look at the wear on them?

If you can feel it in the seats could be the rear wheels as mentioned that need balancing. cheap enough to do and see if it solves the shakes

Hi Wecome,

Sorry to hear of your problem, I agree with all the above comments. Im assuming its a private purchase, tell the seller what your experiencing, see what they say.

I would check first all the simple things first as suggested above ie: uneven tyre wear, out of round road wheel (look for dents on the alloy rims (both rims of the road wheels), are the wheel nuts tight?. Check tyre pressures, are tyres the same, matched pairs on front and back?.

Check to see if a wheel balance weight has come off, take the wheels off one by one and check brake disc run out, easy way clamp a piece of wood to the caliper almost touching the disc and watch the gap between them as you spin the hub. (If you have a dial gauge use that), track rod ends have any play in the ball joints?, power steering can mask symptoms.

Hope you find the cause soon let me know what you find

Good Luck

Peter
