6 cylinder diesel?

Featured Replies

i drive a skoda fabia 1.9 tdi..nice everyday car 50mpg

i also have an audi A8 3.0 tdi which does between 30-40 mpg

i never get below 30 just knocking about

infact on a run (driving lika a granny) i can get 44mpg!

absolute rubbish, my brother driving his remapped PD160 ibiza cupra (1177Kg) running ~190bhp and over 300Lbft couldn't get away from me driving my other halfs standard vectra GSi (1500Kg) running 208bhp and 221Lbft and infact over 40mph he was holding me up due to him having to change gears all the bloody time. this was both of us going for it in good conidtions from a moving start on a dual carriageway.

No comment.... as I don't know the conditions and the std of drivers, or the std of car (ie if they were putting out true figures, any faults, any extra or less weight etc etc etc)

But I'd say rubbish and absolute don't come into it. The 3.0tdiq used to it's potential is quicker real world driving* than an S3 2.0 tfsi engine

What if you like both ?

No one likes both!

"Feels" quicker but only due to the narrow powerband, in the real world diesels are not quicker unless they have more horsepower as well , i love diesels but i also love performance cars

both drivers knowing their chosen car well and having driven them plenty to know how to drive them, clear dry and mild weather, neither car having faults, both reasonable milage(vectra 41k on a 52 plate and ibiza high 40k on a 55 plate) and neither carrying noticible amounts of extra weight.

what on earth is real world driving then? yes if you put your foot down whilst in a high gear at low revs the diesel is quicker but if you do that in the petrol your not driving it correctly.

I personally would like to see a V6 Diesel Supurb. It is abut refinement and character for me and, no matter how good a 4 cylinder Diesel is (and the 170CR is damn good) it is still going to be a bit boring in a luxobarge. The 3.0 Audi Diesel is a lovely motor and sounds fantastic for a Diesel when pushed. It would be serious competition for the A6 IMHO.

The 3.6 petrol looks fantastic but £400 a year and 20 odd mpg if you have fun makes it a pipe dream for me. A V6 Diesel though would be perfect. Trying to convince my dad to buy a Supurb but he wants a Diesel and would only have a 6 pot after his C280. Will probably end up with a used E320 CDI: shame.

I'm Mr nobody then

How did you know

Interesting points being made from people who clearly know their subject. Thanks to everyone. I would be one of the few who would consider a bigger engined superb but i guess trying the 2.0 tdi 170 1st must make sense.

Very interesting reading regarding performance figures/ stories involving the 3.0 tdi in various applications. I had a bit of a do with an A4 last week, the road was quiet and we were, ahem, making progress so to speak. The A4 could not keep up with me (my octy is revo'd to 210bhp/230 lb/ft). A few miles down the road i pulled into a petrol station and the A4 did too. We got chatting and the A4 was a 3.0 tdi quttro with 233 bhp. He was somewhat perplexed that "my little skoda" was so brisk.

I also have a friend with an A5 3.0 tdi quattro and after driving the octy he says mine is quicker.

Is the 3.0 unit not as grunty as some suggest or my octy a little more powerful than revo quote?

Cheers guys

Jim

The V6 is smoother, so can give the illusion of being quicker :)

It's also quite a bit heavier than my octy too. I've driven my mates A5 and it is not noticeably quicker.

Sometimes I drive an Audi A4 2.0 Tdi PD 140 and I fell that it's more powerfull than my Superb II 170 CR,a lot more.In fact,if we do a "drag race",when I get to 150km/h the Superb is already almost 50 m in front, and at 180km/h I'm over 100m in front of the Audi. It's just that the CR engine feels more smoother.Probably the same thing with the 3.0 TDI.I wouldn't bother a 3.0TDi 4x4 Superb.

Good point. My wife's standard Furby initially feels quicker than my Octy but, of course, it isn't. Just when you think it's got the jump on it, it hits a brick wall and you have to change up again.
