Air Tattoo - Saturday 18th July

Featured Replies

Cracking weekend, camped in a soggy field on Friday eating steak and drinking wine, then up at the crack of dawn to see the Vulcan (and one or two others!).

Here are some of my better shots, all taken with a D80/18-200VR/UV filter/Polariser. (I need a bigger lens!)

Excellent:thumbup:

I like the Red Arrows with that dramatic sky.

Quote "need a bigger lens" I say it to myself everytime I get home from shooting:thumbup:

If I had 400mm I'd be moaning I needed 600mm. There's no end to it:(

The 'moody sky' backgrounds really do enhance the pics

Yep, the flying spaghetti monster gave us a lovely backdrop for the day.

Infact we did superbly well all told - in the run up the weather reports suggested scuba gear and flippers would be suitable attire but the rain had gone by friday evening and Saturday was a scorcher. I'm burnt to a crisp  <- (this is a self portrait)

...nicked a couple of 'em too to add to my "plane porn" folder ;)

Dont mean to hijack the thread but heres some you can add to your "plane porn" folder.

Oh yes, I forgot - here's the obligatory (car) porn shot taken on Friday afternoon when it wasn't looking too good weather-wise...

Great pics by the OP - thanks for sharing

As for the one (you know who you are :rotz:) who posted the 'look what I found on the internet' pics - we can all use the internet to find great pictures

This forum is for pictures taken by members, or at least that's what I thought it was :o

If you manage to find those pics on the internet i'll be quite impressed. (although someone else on the sqn might have put them somewhere) They were from a trial that our sqn did to asses performance data with such a heavy weapon load. The only reason why I posted them was for the pure fact that they are rare and as far as I know unreleased. I also said that I dont mean to hijack the thread and I thought they might be of interest to simbo as he copied the OP's pics for his "plane porn" folder.:( Didn't mean to pee anyone off.

I was down on the Fri/Sat as well. Although I wimped out and stayed at the Hare and Hounds near Tetbury.

I'm not sure about this years RIAT. Didn't seem as good as previous ones. Good photos though  , mine haven't come out so great.

I'm not pee'd off - it's maybe a shame the explanation wasn't posted up when the pictures were posted up originally.

On a different tack, but if they are not freely available anywhere else, it seems a little surprising that individuals would have access or permission to post them up on internet forums, what with the levels of security that you imagine exist in the forces.

Have to say they are excellent pictures in any event - you don't happen to know if they need a part-time photographer suitably tooled up with a Panasonic point and shoot do you ? :)

some good shots - really helped by the threatening looking sky

oh and post #13 - the weather must have been pretty bad to blow over the barbie!! :D

lol, no the barbie was placed on its side so it didn't turn into a paddling pool!

There were only freely available to the people directly involved in the trial but to be honest there is nothing in the pics which is incriminating (but obviously the data gathering is a little more sensitive) the pics are available if you buy the book "Above the rest a pictorial history of the eurofighter" by Geoffrey Lee. He does most of our aireal photograpghy due to him originally working for BAE Systems on the Harrier, Hawk and Tornado aircraft. Although he is a little more freelance now. Top bloke and he has a fantastic eye for this kind of thing (and I suspect a very expensive camera)

On another note, pretty sure you live in Lincoln, I'm at coningsby and would be happy to take you around one of our jets for your own up close and personal photo's. :)

Thanks to both the OP and fitz - cracking pics from you both

Not far off, I'm the next village south up Cross o' cliff Hill

That's a cracking offer, thanks - I would have PM'd you but see you can't accept them. Also, you might have several others slavvering at the opportunity, so you might just be opening up the floodgates. Can't say I'm not tempted though

Cant accept PM's, how do I sort that out?

Seriously mate your more than welcome any time. Most of the Sqn take people to have a look round and I've shown quite a few people round already so its no drama. The RAF dont mind because it raises our profile and the Typhoon could do with some positive press at the moment. ;)

Not sure actually - can you send them out ? If you click on my Briskoda name it might tell if if you can or not.

Could it be forces security if you're at work at the moment ?

Think i've sussed it, I hadn't checked the box in my profile that allows me to accept incoming emails. :)
