1st Service Time.

Featured Replies

Well I have had 22 months of trouble free driving and my 1st service is due. Done 15600 miles. My local North West dealer has quoted £216.00 to collect the car from home. Service, wash, vacum the car and return it. Is that about the norm. Thanks in advance.

22 months before the first service!!!!

and still have 300 miles before its due. Does that price sound about right?

Why the surprise? it will be on variable, the first service they do nothing more than fart in a bag, change the oil and charge an extortionate amount of money

£216 seems quite steep. Most are charging £110-£160 for a variable 1st service based on other members posts.

Its just the idea of the engine running for such a long period of time when its new before an oil change. I understand the long service intervals but had no idea this applied to the first year. Do they have a 6 month inpection or something before the first service? There could be a leaky hose or something and it would'nt get spotted.

I realise its all aimed at fleet managers rather than private owners, so i'll def go for fixed servicing once I order my vRS in the common months.

Nope, just 2 services.

Fixed - 10K or 1yr

Variable - UPTO 18K or UPTO 2yrs (depending on car monitoring sensors, driving style etc)

No need for inspection services @ 6 months, or mid way. Why do you need it?

Are they including the 2 year inspection in the quote as it is near as damn it in time and price wise?

Good question Lozparry.

Did you ask for first variable, or 24 month service?

I'm on variable servicing. I told them it was my first service and I had done 15k.

My first variable service at 18.5k cost £110 and the car was about 16months old (2.0tdi), so it does seems a little steep..

Every variable service is a major one and consists of a lot more than a simple oil change. £200-250 sounds about right to me, but if like me you value the paintwork on the car tell them NOT to wash it and do it yourself.

Well I just got a call from my dealer in Liverpool (Alex Lawrie). Just been informed that my cooling fans not working so they will get a new one tonight and fit it tomorrow under warrantee. Well worth the servicing fee. :)

After note: If I had my service done on the cheap, I wonder how much it would have cost to have the cooling fans repaced out of warrantee?

Is the brake fluid change recommended after 2 years? I seem to remember this being the case for older VAGS. Haven't got my service schedule to hand to check.....

Brake fluid does need replacing after 2 years according to my 55 reg car's service schedule.

Today I was charged £167.50 by Central Skoda (Erdington, B'Ham) for 1st variable service at 18K miles. Car picked up from my work place and returned cleaned - all sorted.

Yes collected/delieverd my Octy and carried out a 2 years service + change the break fluid. My overall thoughts on this servicing is that it was well worth the £216.04 which included a litre of topping up oil. Had I have gone to an independent, I doubt that the would have noted my cooling fans where not working. As I have never had a cooling issue, I may have driven the car out of it's warrantee, then had to pay for the repair. Well pleased :)

Starting this one up again!

58 plate PD170 vRS, registered Sept 08, now on 10,900 miles, MFD states another 4800 miles until service due which is about 5 months or so time I reckon.

With the car having the oil in from the factory still I am thinking of getting an oil and filter change at minimum and leaving the car on variable, or would that muck up the service schedule? Therefore, am I better changing to fixed so I know where I am etc?

It just would give peace of mind that the car has been checked over annually, and if it was done at the end of this month its been checked over before the winter?

Reckon I'll be doing about 15k a year.

Dealer or independant specialist using OEM parts and oil - choices?!

Thoughts?

Thanks

Doing 15K a year, I'd leave on variable and only service when due.

Yes i may do that and just get the first service done early?
