Window Dropped. Access Problems.

Featured Replies

My Octavia's back n/s passenger window dropped last night!

Now all you hear when you wind it up or down is the glass knocking around in the door, the motor works fine no grinding etc.

I've had the doorcard off, unplugged the motor etc and jammed the window shut using some wood, just to prevent thiefs stealing my headunit etc etc...

People have mentioned about a door skin, how do I get this off, the door seems to be one piece of sheet metal and I can't directly access the glass, motor or regulator unless it's through the small restrictive holes in the door.

I've took the doorcard off, but theres no way I can see of removing the metal cover which houses the locking mechanism, window mechanism, electrics etc.

Any help would be appriciated.

With regards to the window, the actual glass has come off the lip on the regulator which push the window up and down, I suppose I can rig a metal jobbie up to replace this anyways! Cables aren't snapped, motors work etc.

It's just getting in to do the job!

As this in the Octavia I section, my first thought is what door skin? On the Octavia I, once the trim is removed there is quite good access to the window regulator, through the cut outs in the door.

If it's an Octavia II, the window regulator is part of the silver metal carrier plate. This carrier is rivetted to the door, you drill the rivets abd replace the whole carrier.

Yes there is cut outs in the door but how do you get the glass out without breaking it once you have un-done the two small bolts holding the clamp? And then how do you get the mechanism out to fix it and get it back in and the line the glass and the mechanism up?

You can't when it's in the door surely?

How much if I pop it into a Skoda Dealer to get it fixed?
