Saw this today.......

Nice, i have to admit, but not for me.

Negative points for me as a 4x4 were:

Total lack of space for the spare wheel (if ordered) No recess in boot, so therefore, you lose what space there is in the boot!!

Narrow boot space anyway.

Not much else to say on the negative side, as i found the car very aesthetically pleasing to be honest, but i will admit, i'm now decided and WILL be going for another Occy Vrs in the near future.

Thumbs up to Skoda for a nice looking car anyway -

Damn can't make the Capitol date in newport tomorrow :(

Just been to look at one at Cheshire Oaks (near Ellesmere Port). Nice in metallic brown (sounds horrible, but it isn't). This one was fairly mobbed with people and I didn't get any time with the Yeti expert but I came away with the following impressions:

  • Overall looks are good.
  • Love the glass roof
  • Mesh guard at the leading edge of the glass roof was packed with bugs, this will be a constant cleaning job in summer.
  • Boot is too small (for me).
  • Seating extremely versatile, the Yeti guy took a seat out of the car and carried it away like it was luggage in about 3 seconds flat - very impressive.
  • Rear seats are pretty flat, not sculpted if you see what I mean. I reckon you'll be sliding all over the place, particularly in leather.
  • A lot of rear seat knee room, I would personally opt to slide the seats further forward on their rails (to make more boot space), but by doing so you open up a big gap between the seat backs and the parcel shelf.

On the whole I liked it, but I'd like to see a fully specced up real world price (I know RRP has been published) and compare it with an Octavia Combi vRS.

Just got back from my first look at the Yeti, very impressed.:)

Got to have a ride round, quick and smooth TDI 140, as someone else commented from Ipswich the rides a little on the firm side, more so I think than the Tiguan I drove last week, but not unpleasant or harsh.

Cabin had an airy quality feel to it, the full leather seats felt particularly good quality although I think I would prefer fabric. Dash top and centre console very much like the Octavia. A novel feature was the front door sills, which had a step down in the top edge to reduce the chance of catching your feet as you get in.

Drove though some dark woodland which put the autolights on, so got to see instrument lighting; very effective. Like the two seperate tubes for speedo and rev counter the Maxidot being in a recessed housing between the two tubes.

No spare but there is a very shallow recess with a fixing mount and a tool bay under the boot carpet. Asked the driver about the spare, stated it would lift the floor level to about the boot sill. So about the same as the Golf then.

My good lady travelled in the back, she commented favourably on the comfort of the seats and the good view out, she also liked the device on top of the seat back which kept the seatbelt in place.

As a practical family car then I give it a big , only downside for some would be the boot space; travel lighter or get a roof box.

All I need now is a dealer willing to sell me one at a good price!!!

extra bit

Going to see one next Wednesday. The big downside seems to be the size of the bootspace - if it won't take a reasonable sized dog crate I guess I'll be looking at the Octavia Scout.

Boots not all that bad if you can go without a spare. There's a bit of a drop to the boot floor, so not ideal for sliding things in and out but obviously the rear seats move about and without them then your into Vauxhall Combo territory.

The rear hatch lifts up clear out of the way leaving a nice square opening so easy to get things in and out.

If you need a spare then clever packing or a roof box may be the way forward.

The accessories catalogue shows a fabric cover that sits between the back seats and parcel shelf to fill the gap when the rear seats are forward.

Looking forward to Allams' viewing day on Wednesday...

If it is similar to the one for the Roomster, don't expect too much from it.

In CZ, an alcantara/leather mix is available which looks really nice. Don't know if that will be available in the UK.

Re: the boot space, I guess if you need pure boot space than an Octavia (or Superb?) combi would be better. But the Yeti is a shorter car and is packaged very well plus has the varioflex seating which makes it a very practical vehicle.

We at Garland Motors in Aldershot are having a Yeti On Monday 3rd August From 1:30PM Onwards until 5:30pm please feel free to come have a look If you haven't

seen one YETI ! :D

Just had a demo drive in a Muscova Brown (??) - mid-bronze anyway - 2.0 140 TDI 4x4 at Robert Eardley's Newcastle under Lyme. The driver says he is covering the Northwest with his car, before they are sent to Slovakia!

The boot has a shallow recess for an emergency spare wheel, but the floor will be lifted to the sill if it is fitted (so similar to my Octavia with its added variable boot floor). Although the boot is not as long as the Octavia, it does seem to have a lot more height.

It was a nice ride, and I was very taken with the big sunroof (said to be an £850 option). No word on when DAB radio will become an option, although the salesman seemed hopeful that it should be possible if they can be fitted to the VW equivalent radios.
