Nürburgring Car Storage, Servicing and Race Training - Insurance

the details:

Nurburgring Insurance

The Nürburgring, simply known as "The Ring" by enthusiasts, and can be classed as a normal road in Germany, or a motorsport race track, depending on whom you speak to. It is open to anyone with a road legal car or motorcycle and also a few euro in their pocket to pay for the road toll. Like all roads or race tracks throughout the world accidents occur, people can be injured and property is damaged.

However, gone are the days when Ring related insurance claims are settled when containing accident statements like; the accident happened on the long and twisty road between Nürburg and Adenau.

Most insurance companies are now fully aware of the Ring and standard automotive and accident insurance policies’ simply do not provide cover whilst driving on this Public tourist toll road, also referred to as the Northloop, Nordschleife or more imaginatively the Green Hell.

I'm not suggesting its not a good idea - just want to make sure people go into it with their eyes open.

There is a comprehensive list of what is covered, but so many people don't read the small print these days, so IMHO they need to be aware of what isn't covered too.

Considering the cost of the barriers, recovery, clearing debris from track and bonding agents to cover fluid spills this is a bargain and I wish I'd known about it. My bill was a relativly small one as in some crashes the vehicles hit the LHS barrier, then the RHS then bounce back again into the LHS. The record repair bill was just over 20,000 euros. So being covered for 10,000 is good.

Don't forget probably the most important part in the insurance

Personal Accident

Rescue costs 10,000 euro (air ambulance or special rescue situations)

Put it this way, if somebody came up to me and offered me 99 quid if I agreed to pay any bills which occured upto this level of insurance I'd say no, I'm sure you'd say no - so how can people say this is expensive.

Saw this in the Octy I forum at the start of the week.

I agree that £99 for barrier insurance is a good idea although I think £99 for 2 days / or a weekend rather than 1 day only would be more reasonable. If you take the policy out for a Friday evening and someone goes out as soon as the track opens, has a really bad off and closes it for the evening then you've just kissed goodbye to £99.

If it doesn't cover you for damage to other cars then you are still well and truly f**ked if something happens and it's your fault. Your UK motor insurance have to pay out for any third party damages according to EU law but they have wording in their contracts that basically states if they're forced into such a payout, and you are breaking the T&Cs of your policy (which you are if you're driving on the Ring and they've excluded it in the policy) then they can take you to court to reclaim those third party costs back... and that could be the cost of a written off Veyron
