Are you sure Skoda use Vector's *.dbc files? That said, there's a good chance they might. But I'd be surprised if even the technicians on here could get hold of this info, it's typically the kind of info used during the ECU development stage, I think interpreting CAN trace data is beyond the scope of a typical dealer/technician?

I can't think why Skoda would release these files to anyone outside development circles, if they even use this file format...

Hi,

No i am not 100% sure Skoda use Vector products during developement.

But i read on Vector's homepage that Audi/VW do, so i think Skoda may also?

I understand it may be difficult to get the *.dbc files (if they exist), so maybe it is easier to find some diagnostics software that supports 3rd party CAN hardware (USB or PC card)?

If Audi/VW do use Vector stuff, I'm sure Skoda will too.

If you have access to CANcase/CANcard and CANoe/CANalyzer, you don't need *.dbc files to use these. All the *.dbc files will do is allow you to have a nice human-readable name for the CAN message IDs. You already have all you need to trace CAN messages.

That's my understanding anyway!

Yes you are correct, getting CAN trace is not a problem.

It is understanding the contents of the CAN frames that is the problem.

For an example:

Without database file:

Chn ID Dir DLC Data

1 335 Rx 8 59 13 00 C2 03 00 00 00

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

With database file:

Chn ID Dir DLC Data

[-] 1 335 Rx 8 59 13 00 C2 03 00 00 00

| ImCMSerialNr 833273987072 [C203000000]

| ImCMSerialNr_UB 1 [ 1]

| AccelerationFr 1.52 [ 13]

| AccelerationFr_UB 0 [ 0]

| MechSensorCheckStat 1 = Failure detection

Hi, I have access to CANalyzer and have all the hardware. I have no *.dbc file and am trying to view the traces/messages but am not seeing any data. Can you help?

Thanks,
