Hello all, can any one help as a sound like the chain is comming from engine, also losing water have to top up once every 10 days and have seen green stains around pump area, is it easy to change the pump and check timing chain at the same time. 70,000 1.4 yr. 2000. 8 v. :confused:

The timing chain and water pump do not have any common labour operations apart from getting the car into the workshop, putting it on the ramp and removing the wheel and auxiliary belt.

Are you sure that the coolant loss is from the water pump?, as the coolant should be pink and not green. A favourite place was coolant loss is from where the fan thermo switch is screwed into the radiator on the passenger side. The timing chains on these engines always sound a bit rattly.

Sound was comming from the starter motor, as it packed in and car wouldn`t start, got the water pump changed as it was leaking, showed it to me where it had been leaking, also second hand starter put in, new chain and coggs, as coggs worn,new fan belt as old cracked,oil and filter.Engine as quite as a mouse chewing paper. Bill came to £370 including parts. Well pleased , thank you to all who took time to assist. Thank-you.
