Adrian Flux - Breakdown Cover

Featured Replies

One of my sons opted for an Adrian Flux Insurance Combined UK and European Breakdown Recovery and Legal Protection Policy when he insured his car with that company last June. When his car suffered clutch failure on the evening of Thursday 8th May, he called the RAC on the freefone number provided with that policy only to be told that his car was not covered. He had to leave the car where it had broken down since it was undriveable.

I phoned Adrian Flux for him at 0930 the following morning and was told that the company was aware of a problem involving some cars which were not on the RAC's records but which should be. The problem was being worked on and I would be called back. I phoned again at 1110, explained the problem to another person, and was told again that I would be phoned back. At 1135 I checked with the RAC who confirmed that my son's car was not covered, and that it would not be recovered by the RAC. Period. At 1145 I phoned Adrian Flux yet again since I had expected an early reply given that a car breakdown was involved. I explained the problem to yet another person, and was told that a manager was dealing with the problem. Finally, at 1325, I received a call from a manager who advised me that arrangements had been made for Mondial to recover the car as a courtesy. Adrian Flux's position was that the RAC was responsible for covering the car for breakdown - while the RAC's position was that it was not. (Apparently Adrian Flux changed their breakdown service provider from the RAC to Europ Assistance earlier this year). When I phoned Mondial, I was advised that the company did not do business with Adrian Flux! I persevered and, after a delay, received confirmation that Mondial would recover the car and would bill the breakdown policy insurer (Cornhill?) direct. A breakdown truck arrived at my son's car at 1535, some 17

An unfortunate experience , but not totally surprising , companies take your money and as far as they are concerned that's the end of it . If it wasn't for your persistance Denis , I'm sure your sons car would still be stuck by the side of the road .

And as for " I'll call you back " , it's almost as non believable as " the cheque is in the post " and that other well known phrase , which I won't repeat on here ;)

I had a 3.1lt V6 MK1 Escort insured with Adrian Flux and had no problems. In fact they were the only people that would insure it!

I did'nt have breakdown cover with them though.

My weekend car is insured through them - they came up with the best deal. When I spoke to them about insuring the Octavia after its remap, I was dealt with by probably the most condescending telephone operator I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. If someone else can do a reasonable deal for the 928 next time, AF won't be getting any more of my business. Nuff said.

Good for you for having to sheer strength to sort this out!

Whilst doing a bit of household paperwork this evening, I discovered that my eldest son also has RAC Breakdown Cover with Adrian Flux. I knew that he had breakdown cover with Britannia Rescue, but hadn't realised that he had opted for Adrian Flux's breakdown cover as well. A quick call to the RAC confirmed that, if he does break down, the RAC will not be providing cover.

Time to draft a letter for him to send to Adrian Flux asking for a refund of the
