HID wiring diagram

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Does anyone happen to have a wiring diagram for the 12 pin (HID unit) and 10 pin (Halogen unit) connectors on the OEM headlights?

Also, my left HID unit has an extra 4 pin connector on it and 11of the 12 pins on the other connector connected. The right unit only has a single 12 pin connector with 10 of those 12 connected

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers

no one have any ideas? :(

I've got the adapters from kufatec but I've lost the levelling control

edit: Also, does anyone know of a way to stop the dipped beam being switched off when full beam is selected?

I think I have thrown out my notes of which terminals went where now, but I'll have a look.

If you've got the Kufatec adaptors they should just be plug and play shouldn't they?

There is a spare terminal on the headlamp switch (or there was on my Bora, when I did the same conversion as I think that you are doing). This will need to be joined to the dipped beam supply. I did it at the fusebox rather than trying to do it at the steering column end. I should be able to find out which terminal that was.

I seem to remember that there might be a wire inside the headlamp to cut and join somewhere else (there was on the post 03 Golf IV headlamps) to get the levelling to work again, but I can't remember off hand which one it was I'm afraid. I used the 02 xenon lights on mine and the levelling worked without any problems.

Many thanks for the reply, The kufatec adapters have lost me the height control, and it's still turning off the dipped beam when I put the full beam on, I read that guide before I bought the kufatec adapters, but when I got the adapters, the wiring is totally different to that guide. If you could get me some more information that'd be brilliant!

I seem to remember someone on here doing what I'm trying to do and had a nice written guide but I can't find it anymore :(

I have changed our Halogen over to Xenon, and did a write up - have a search under my user name, and I am sure it will come up.

The Halogen lights use H4 bulbs for dipped/main, hence your problem.

I never used the cables, and did my own wiring, and to solve this problem, I took a feed from teh actual headlight switch in the cabin, ran a cable to a 12v relay to turn on the dipped, then they stay on when you put on mains.

Hope this helps

ahhh that's the thread I was thinking of!

Any chance of some info on how you got the levelling control working? The HID lamps have a substantial stepper motor in to control height, it has 4 wires on it, would be nice to get it working with the in dash control. I'm confused how you got the dipped beam working though, do you have any photos?

For the dipped beam, you need a completely new feed for them to work properly, forget the one that is at the plug into the lights.

You need to take a feed from the headlight control switch inside the car, and this then goes to a relay, and then to an earth, so when you switch on your dipped, this then triggers the relay to switch the poles.

Then on the other 2 pins of the relay, you have a 12v feed from the battery to one, and the other pin now goes to the headlight plug, or in my case the HID control box.

This then switches on the dipped, and keeps on the dipped when you put on your main beam.

Hope this makes it a bit clearer - although its one of those hard to explain jobs, but much easier to show and do.

Sorry no pictures of the wiring.

As for the headlight adjuster, the Halogen motor has 3 wires - Power (+), Power (-) and Control (+). The Xenon motor has 4 wires - Power (+), Power (-), Control (+) and an extra wire that goes to the sensor box for auto adjust.

Unfortunately, the colours of the wiring does not match up for an easy solution, and my local Skoda garage does not have the wiring diagram with colours - they have offered if I were to pop in, they would have a go sorting it, but never had the chance to take them up on the offer - one day............

All we need to know is what the colours are for in the Halogen motor, and again, what the colours are for on the Xenon, and then match up the Power (+), Power (-) and Control (+) to one another, and that should be the job sorted.

So if anyone knows of the colours and functions, please, please, please let me know....

Cheers

awesome, thanks for the info, I now get what you mean about the dipped beam!

I also think I've got a breakthrough on the motor wiring. It seems to be made of two voice coils that measure 8.8ohms each, I've had the unit apart and it looks like if you apply power to two pins the motor moves one way and power to the other two pins and it moves the other way. I don't think it's likely that we'll be able to get it working with the in car rheostat as you need a stepper motor controller which is built into the ballast from what I can tell. Unless of course we get get it working via the ballast which might be a possibility?

The pins are in pairs so pins 1 and 2 are one coil, pins 3 and 4 are the other coil

I had a dead ballast in one of the units, but the whole thing only cost £30 so I can't complain!

Here's a pic of the end result, well happy! :D

I am not sure about the wiring, as I reckon, as there are 3 from the existing motor, then you have a plus, minus and a trigger wire, and on the HID version, you have 4 wires, 3 wires being the same as the halogen motor with an extra wire that controls the self levelling - therefore I just need to work out which are the 3 wires that mirror the halogen ones, then wire up, and jobs a good'un.....
