help - can't use head unit

Featured Replies

I had to have the head unit taken out to connect speaker cables but once it's taken out and put back it asks for the 4 digit code.

I've asked a saleman but he doesn't know. I had a look in the manual but not sure where it is. I know I'm not the only one who has had the head unit taken out so how do I find out the stereo code?

Many thanks in advance.

You can get it from your or nearest Skoda service. It is not written in manual or elsewhere.

I have the code on request as I purchased my car from the dealer ;)

You have to go to a dealer, with the V5 and proof of purchase of the car. They then hook up their diag equipment and extract some info from the headunit. They then contact Skoda and ask for the code for the radio, and send them copies of the documents provided to prove ownership. They get the code back and then enter it, and if they are nice they will also write it down and pass it to you. You dont really need the code yourself though, as its meant to be sent to the headunit via the cars ECU. The only time you should need the code is if you were selling the unit on.

That's a lot of hassle, why can't they just give the owner the number.

I think I do need the code myself as I don't really want to go through this whole process every time I need to enter the code. (For changing speakers back to original speakers when I sell the car, for replacing battery, for taking the head unit out to add an amp)

Inevitably most batteries will need replacing after a few years so i guess most people will need to get their stereo code at some point.

When replacing the battery, they usually connect back-up power supply to your cigarette lighter/power socket in order to keep all the electronics in the car powered up.

When I got my new Fabia estate last year, there was a plastic tab attached to the keys that had the key code, radio code etc on it. I was told to keep it safe. That's what you want.

Just removed my head unit - (Dance) and mistakenly switched on to find the Code message. Try switching off, turning on the ignition and then switching the radio back on. My unit displayed 'Learn' then switched on the radio without any mention of a code.

That is how it is supposed to work.. You have to enter the code only when using a radio that hasn't been used in the car before.

That's what happened the next time I drove the car. I thought I somehow and by pure luck correctly entered the correct code!

I wonder if that will happen every time you remove the head unit and put back in. I hope so.
