warning buzzer when leaving lights on?

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I cant remember if my 04 oct vrs used to have a warning buzzer when you stop the car but leave the lights on as in the last two weeks ive got out and lefted them on twice but luckily i wasnt away from the car to long so no flat battery.

if it did have a warning buzzer but is not working, any ideas whats gone wrong?

cheers

Andy

The warning buzzer is linked to the external door switch, so first thing check does the interior light go on/off as you open/close the door.

My 02 octy elegance had a warning buzzer or more of a warning boing. Your problem might be a faulty door switch. Do your interior lights come on when you open the door?

Doh, beaten to it.

cheers guys ive never really noticed if the lights go on and off but ill have a look tomorrow.

Buzzer only triggers from the drivers door.

it is tied in with the puddle light in the door as well (on my 4x4 anyway)

and as above - if the micro switch in the door is knackered they don't work

hi guys

ive been out in the car this morning and you guys hit the nail on the head, the interior light doesnt work when i open the drivers door.

does anyone know the part number for the switch?

cheers

Bit off topic but I see you have an AMD remap. Whats it like? Would you recommend them?

Do a search on here as there are several threads that explain how you can fit a new switch bought at Maplins or elsewhere.

Alternative is to a fit a new (expensive) door lock which is what Skoda dealers do.

does anyone know the part number for the switch?

There are several (iirc) microswitches within the door lock. It will either be a dry joint on one of those, or one the switches might have failed. Pretty sure you can't get the switch as a single item from the dealer (they are more likely to see the entire lock unit), so worth taking it out and performing a little diagnostics - I suspect you can source replacement microswitches from Maplins (and the like). Otherwise pop down a scrappy and see if there is an Octy in which you can get the lock unit from and then swap over the defective parts from there.

cheers guys ill have a search. the AMD remap is pretty good, i had to go back a few times and they had to tone it down a bit as it was running a bit jurky. If i was to have a remap again i think i would go for a revo as it gets alot better fed back.

And what if the buzzer (never sounds) doesn't work and the inerior light still works and turns on and off with the door opening/ignition turning off and locking of the car??

then its broken

its built in the the rear of the dash insert i think so not easy to fix

Lots of these bleeps and buzzes are configurable I think. It may have been turned off in VCDS, particularly if the seat belt, low fuel and/or "overheat" chimes all still work.

LOL thanks felicia16v for that amazing insight....

KenONeill - yes the fuel beep still happens, nothing for the seatbelts though, i'll have to get my mate to connect his magic machine to my car and see if that picks anything up then....

sorry couldn't resist it :giggle:

If your overhead interior light does not come ON or sometimes work and others not, you can bet is the microswitch in the door lock. My drver door is beguining to bother with the same problem...............

These door lock mechanism are a HUGE pain in the ass! :'(

If you check VW, AUDI or SEAT FORUMS and make a search over there you will read that these VAG cars are plagued with door locks problems.

Check these two post, they have pics, and I am pretty sure they can help you.

Good luck,
