HELP Skoda Favorit Glxie immobiliser ?

Featured Replies

Hi am new here and am looking for some advice.

I have been having problems with my Skoda favorit glxie cutting out.

I have read that the problem could be the immobiliser. Now for the questions.

How easy is it to remove altogether, where is it located (is it in the dashboard as I suspect). Does anyone have the removal instructions.

Any ideas on what else could be the problem would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Steve

Hi and welcome.

The car starting then cutting out occurs with the integrated immobilisers on the Felicia. On the Favorit the immobiliser is after market and therefore the car will not start at all if the immobiliser doesn't come off after the electronic key is inserted and removed. I guess it's possible the immobiliser is not detecting the ignition live (this would lead to the fuel pump cutting out), but this would be obvious as the red light would start flashing again and the electronic key would need inserting again before it allows the starter to turn.

Under what circumstances does it cut out?

Hi the car starts as normal I can drive for about a mile and it just cuts out with no warning.I can usually get it started again and it could run for a mile or 20miles and cuts out again.

When it cuts out on turning the car over there is a spark at the plugs but it doesnt seem to be getting fuel, on disconecting the injector fuel hoses the fuel flow is greater going into the fuel pressure regulator than that going into the injector. Yet according to the arrows denoting the flow direction this is the wrong way round.

I have had multimeter connected to the fuel pump and the car running for about 1/2 hour on the drive and no

change in the voltage readings.

As an aside there seems to be a leak allowing water into the car somewhere around the steering wheel .After a heavy rain the drivers footwell is wet as is the underside of the dash.

Any water leaking in through the windscreen tends to go into the fusebox located passenger side under the dash and mucks up the electrics there so that would be my priority. Either new seal, silicone sealant bodge, or some of that seek n seal type stuff.

I guess it could be worth trying to change the fuel filter. They tend to be neglected on these cars as they're in a tricky position to get to (just behind rear exhaust heat shield).

Have recently fitted a new fuel filter air filter plugs&leads oil&filter (about 3 weeks ago).

The rain getting in is on the drivers side just to the right of the steering wheel (as you are sat in the car).I have a feeling the immobiliser is located here. I seem to remember a black box situated there when I changed a dash bulb.

Sent PM with info on immobiliser. My only other thought is perhaps the fuel pump relay (a grey relay situated under a clear plastic cover next to the ECU) could be going a bit iffy.

Hi many thanks for the instructions.

The fuel relay is a typ 543 12V 20A I have a spare typ 541 12V 30A will this be OK to try as a stop gap.

Many thanks

Steve

I am struggling to find my spare fuel pump relay, but I am sure it is crossed with a capacitor or resistor or whatever on the switching bit. I am sure this is done to protect the electrickery of the ECU so probably best to get an identical replacement.

No problem will pick up a spare and see what happens first.

Will keep you posted on the outcome.

Could be the fuel pump is on the way out.

Mine conked out on my DAd. got it going then it finally gave up ghost on me a month later!!!!

Replaced it now :D but in case you're wondering a new fuel pump is about £220 from the local dealer.

Hi have disconected the immobiliser as per the instructions.

Now for the fun bit. When i turn the ignition on the starter just keeps running. When I turn the ignition off the fuel pump cuts in.

Help any ideas

Many thanks

Steve

When i turn the ignition on the starter just keeps running.

If this is in the "on" position rather than the "start" position, you must have connected the wires incorrectly at the back of the ignition switch.

When I turn the ignition off the fuel pump cuts in.

I think again this must be due to the wires being connected to the ignition switch in the wrong positions.

Trying to rack my brains which wires you've got where to make this happen. Do the lights on the dash (handbrake etc) come on with the fuel pump? And do the heater fans, indicators etc switch on?

Appologies for the delay in responding,(have been away).

I have now sorted the wiring out and the car starts and runs as it should. However the damned thing still cuts out on me. I think this happens more when I'm going up or down hill.

I think I'l replace the fuel pump (or rather the insert) and hope that that cures the problem.

How easy/hard is it to replace the insert.

Many thanks

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi,

On a similar note I had a look at removing the immolbiliser on my 1995 Favorit at the weekend and figured out how to bypass the feeds to both the starter and ignition feeds but not the one to the fuel pump. Any chance you could PM me also with the instructions.

The unit is working fine but I'm very concious that we only have one key for it and if we lose it or it breaks then we are going nowhere fast !!!

Thanks

Graham
