rear child window switch

Featured Replies

I am looking for some help on the electric rear window switch please. The switch I am on about is the one on the front drivers door that stops the kids in the back playing with the electric windows. Mine has stopped working, but all other parts of the electric windows seems fine.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction to getting it sorted please?

If you can get the swich out, check that the wiring is still attached and test the switch by putting a multi meter across it. You can use Ohms setting and if the switch is working you will get a low reading like 0.2. If nothing comes up when the switch is pressed the switch is broken.

Don't think it will be that easy!

For all of the functions on that switch pack there are likely to be three wires in total. Unless you have the software to plug the unit into, you probably won't be able to figure out what it is doing just by using a multi meter.

pop down a scrappy and get a spare control (or borrow one from a local Octy owning mate?) and see if that cures the problem. If so you know the fault is in the switch unit, if the fault is not cured then you need to start looking further afield - convience unit / broken cables / dirty connections / water imgress into the drivers door.

There is me thinking its just like a blocker switch, Everything seems to go into a control module now.

Not sure to be honest... but a simple block switch would then required wires from the other 3 doors to be able to block them... so control via the convience unit seems a more likely.... but that is said with no real knowledge of the cars weird and wonder electical system!

Poor typing!

In this case it is a simple switch. If you remove the armrest switch panel and unplug the wiring, you can test between pins 11 (common ground) and 14.

Unfortunately, pin 14 leads to the driver door control unit so the problem could be there. Check the grey/purple wire between the switch panel and the control unit.

Does everything else work on the driver door - locks, window, mirror, interior light?

Yes. Everything else works.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will try and get the unit out of the armrest soon and let you know the outcome.
