Teething troubles - Radio fader

Featured Replies

Four days into ownership and a 100 mile round-trip to Costco has shown the load lugging capabilities of the Roomster. The two trolly load which would have challenged our previous Volvo V70 estate was easily accomodated, with an industrial sized pack of kitchen rolls on the back seat next to the mother-in-law. I think the Roomster has a lower floor level in the boot area which aids loading.

The trip also highlighted a problem - during the trip I tried to fade the audio so that the MIL could hear. Adjusting the fader level just seemed to reduce the level in the front, without increasing levels in the rear! Is this a fault, or a known 'issue'. Or is it me not reading the manual properly? Any help would be appreciated.

The Roomster got the seal of approval from the Mother-in-law, who was sceptical that it would be as comfortable as the Volvo. She did complain about the small size of the rear seats, but was won over when showed that they could be reclined, and that the centre seat folded down to make an arm rest. She was also happy with the good view to be had from the back seat - a facet which contributed to a good deal of 'back seat driving' - Skoda might like to look at that for future models.

Apart from the radio, the car was a pleasure to drive, cruising happily on the motorway at 70 mph, returning 54 mpg, if the computer is to be believed. The Scout skinny tyres didn't deliver too hash a ride, the suspension soaking up all but the worst potholes, and providing sure-footed handling. People often comment on body roll with Roomsters, but I haven't noticed any, perhaps this is because I'm used to driving tank-like Volvo estates!

I would have said it was a fault TBH. test it out on your drive and if the rears dont go up when you use the fader, get it back to the dealer.

BTW the Roomster is a fantastic handling car.

That's exactly the way mine works, as did the car I had before.

Using the fader lowers the volume in front or the rear, and you compensate with the volume control. You should find the same with the left and right balance.

Thanks! I shall take it in next time I'm passing.

I think the fader is just to reduce the output in either front or rear and then you need to increase the volume to compensate. That's the way mine works.

Thanks Calomax & Dibujo - I' m sure my last car's fader worked the other way round; increasing the volume in the back! No matter - I'm still quite impressed with the 'Dance' system, especially after some of the posts about poor reception!

I have had a bit of a problem with mine. On two occasions recently it has gone silent although the display has stayed on. If I change channels, it starts to search for a usable frequency but can't find one. the CD was also silent. Turning it off an on made no difference but, on both occasions it started working normally the next time I started the engine after the ignition had been turned off.

Had this a few times with mine but put it down to the car kit fitted. Do you have a car kit?

No, it's bog standard, without the remote controls.

Could be a software bug. The stream also suffered from something like that, and a firmware flash by the dealer fixed it for all.

Car's at the garage having a broken foglamp replaced. I mentioned the radio and the dealer is unaware of any updates for the Dance Radio and hasn't heard ot the problem before. If it keeps happening he will replace the radio.
