Santa Pod RWYB August 9th

Featured Replies

Just looking for some tips as i've never done this before and dont want to look a complete tool by doing something stupid and destroying some part of the car. I dont really do 0-60 on the roads so its not something i'm practised at. :o

Anything I need to be careful about or take with me just incase?

Sorry if this has been covered before. I have read the guides on the RWYB site and had a quick search on the forums.

Also anyone else going?

Cheers

Now done this. Pics and a few videos can be found here : Santa Pod pictures by panbot3000 - Photobucket

In the clio?

Hold the revs at 4,000 and then smoothly but quickly lift up the clutch, then full throttle. And start this when the lights are orange :) That last bit helped me get a very quick reaction time against some serious competitors! The front end will bang while spinning the wheels due to the amount of grip at the start there, but it'll go once you've got traction.

Just enjoy yourself :D

Good advice.

Why do you seem surprised im taking a CLIO 1.6! :P

To be fair I dont expect to be the quickest thing there but just wanted to see what it could do.

I keep trying to get my dad to go in his Focus ST too.

Yeah that is my main concern. Its not exactly local either so if its forecast rain nearer the time i may not be going. :(

If you dont go down on sunday mate, a few people local (s. yorks) are going down on the 15th

Babs hit the nail on the head with the lights, once they go orange... go! By the time you react, they are already green so you get really good (.2 being my PB) reaction time :D

Thanks. I may take you up on that offer. I'm off to uni soon and it looks like I wont have the use of my car for a while so I want to use it while I can. :D

NP. fella, im going down in mine but doubt I wil beat my PB of 13.5 at Inters, as need a new boost pipe 1st! Only way I could is if the water meth does it work, and I sort out a new pipe!

Whats the bhp of the beastie of a clio?

Whats the bhp of the beastie of a clio?

Well standard as new its supposed to be 107-110 bhp depending on where you look and 0-60 of 9.3-9.6. Torques around the 107lb-ft mark.

But ive made a couple of mods namely a remap and green cotton filter which should add another 10bhp and 10lbft of torque if you believe the figures the remap companies give.

Plus i dont know what the previous owner did to the car or how it was treated. I'm still trying to figure out if its had an uprated clutch in it as my dad claims the pedal is stiffer than his previous 2.5 impreza

Without going on a dyno i cant say but if the engines still good it could be about 120bhp in a car that weighs 1040kg.

But i really have no idea what to expect thats one reason why im wanting to try it, though I could just be leaving myself open to disappointment. :(

I've seen a video of someone who claims they have 125 bhp and they get a 0-60 of about 8 seconds but I tend to take these videos with a pinch of salt.

And yes I type way too much and like my car way too much for what it is :P Just I went from a 1.0 corsa to this so its the best thing since sliced bread to me.

Your going to love it then when you do indeed upgrade to a octy vRS then if you love that car sooo much haha!

Just enjoy it, rag the thing to death (or near enough) and just see what times you get. I personally think you will run (based on nothing really but hey) a high 16, 16.84 at a terminal speed of 85.7mph!

That sounds about right. I think the only thing I do have in my favour is that I only weigh about 9 stone so the power to weight ratio isnt changed much :P

LOL, I have the same problem mate, is everyone just says my times are so fast as I dont weight much over 10!

I will. The car is currently in my works garage having the rear wheel bearings changed and the technician also reckons the clutch is heavy so either its uprated or it has a problem.

I'll know soon enough anyway :P

I wasn't suprised at the Clio! Just asking :)

I went up the strip at Pod in my Lupo Sport, was good fun!

And about the going on orange, there was this stripped Mk2 Scirocco with the throttle bodies sticking through the bonnet that I beat off the line! :)

Was like "I'm winning! I'm winning! I'm... oh.... crap :("

Haha Babs, ive been in a similar situation before with, what was at the time the fastest FWD car in the country! Jabbasports old MK2 Golf with the 20vT engine.. have some good pictures of me flying off the line and it hadnt even set off yet... then the oh.... crap line came!

No worries. I wouldnt have been offended if you were surprised. I'm under no illusions that my clio will probably be one of the slower cars there. Hoping for some 1.2's(standard ofcourse) to help make me look a bit quicker. :D

My dads also decided to go but not in his ST :(. He's going to be the camera man instead so hopefully I can post the videos however good or laughably bad my runs prove to be.

See below for pictures of the above story with my Ibiza vs Jabba's golf!

Making him wait....

Yeah I can see this could get embarrassing for me :o

I just watched the video on the RWYB site where it mentions about warming up your tires. Now is that worth me doing and if it is whats the best way to do it. Handbrake or just rev it alot whilst letting the clutch out?

It may be something I just skip really until i get a bit of practice.

Just got back from Santa Pod and had some good fun.

Messed up my first run as I thought I was beyond the staged position so I didnt go (checked the footage after and my lights didnt go green for some reason ).

Then when I did go I actually got my fastest run out of the way first :P

I think my problem was I listened first time and held the revs at about 3500-4000rpm and then let the clutch out and floored it when i got grip. Then I got all excited and gave it too many revs for the other runs.

Also looking at other times i dont know how i managed a 16.7 with only 80mph terminal speed. i can only assume i nailed it off the line as similar times come with speeds of about 85mph.

Times as follows:

Run 1:

Reaction time - +.6196

1/4 ET - 16.7270

1/4 MPH - 80.81

Run 2:

Reaction Time - +.6774

1/4 ET - 17.0540

1/4 MPH - 80.51

Run 3:

Reaction Time - +.4256

1/4 ET - 17.404

1/4 MPH - 79.82

Run 4:

Reaction Time - +.3128

1/4 ET - 16.9443

1/4 MPH - 80.25

Highlight was beating a Corolla T Sport D-4D on my second run :D (though if the figures on parkers are accurate and the car was standard then this was nothing special :( )

Other runs not so great. Had n very quick escort, an audi s4 (only 1.4 seconds behind that which I wasnt too disappointed with) and then a Nissan Pulsar which had been played with.

I think next time I go i'll stick decent tyres on the front instead of budgets and hopefully will have put a stainless system and manifold on there. That I would hope would give me another 8-12bhp and bring the time down to below 16.5 and increase the terminal speed by a couple of mph. Or I will have a faster car. :P

Will post pics and some videos when I can.
