temp gauge felicia 1.3 MPI and other questions

Featured Replies

Had a read through this forum and want to confirm what I'm thinking.

People go on about a yellow temp sensor for the 1.3.

Does this go to the temp gauge and ecu?

What's the part number and price for ordering from the dealer?

Stereo, mine keeps cutting out all the time so I want to rewire it. Does anyone have a diagram of the wiring to the ignition?

suspension, my passenger rear shock is on the way out, people on here talk about something or other rusting away and it collapsing, is this part of the shock absorber when ordered or a part that can be ordered on it's own ( I may aswell replace while down there)?

Engine, in the rain it runs rough as a dog in the rain while cold, do they have a history of moisture getting into the leads/ coil/whatever?

and finally

exhaust, the exhaust rubber for the back box fits fine but that little metal bit that sticks out of the bracket on the other exhaust brackets aint there.

It's obviously to stop the rubber falling off (narf narf) what's the part number on this and how do they fit?

Cheers

Gav

1) This is the sensor you're after I guess. AFAIK it's coupled both to the gague and the ecu but I may be wrong there:

Skoda Felicia 1.3Mpi/1.6 Thermostat Temperature Sensor - £8.99 : Skoda Parts, Jorily, The Skoda Parts Shop - Probably the UKs largest independent skoda parts supplier

2) Not sure about this one. My impression is that Fellies never have tha radio connected to the ignition in original wiring, instead there's a constant live feed.

3) see this thread for information, the spring cups is part of the dampers so a change of dampers will sort it: http://briskoda.net/favorit-felicia-fun-forman/skoda-felicia-damper-failure/77263/

4) If your temp sensor is broken this could be the cause (can cause a lot of symptoms). But if the symptoms only occur in damp weather it could be a cracked coil pack or dirty/damaged leads. The coil pack issue is described here: Coil Pack Repair/Reinforcement for VR6 engines (although not Felly specific and I don't know if the suggested epoxy solution works.

5) No idea, sorry.

Update, turns out the temp gauge is working, I just don't do much town driving so it doesn't get high enough to register.

Most of me driving is 2 right turns then 70mph for 20 minutes.:o

I have the same issues with mine at the minute, engine is very hesitant and spluttery from cold starts on wet days. I've replaced my temperature sensor which hasn't cured the problem. As for the temp guage not registering, mine only ever gets above 70 degrees these days when sat in traffic, from reading previous threads it could be the thermostat housing broken, causing constant cooling of the engine

Then I'd say that your thermostat needs replacing, I am assuming that your car is a MPi with the plastic thermostat. Around £50 from Skoda including the temperature sensor. You can get the spring seats for the rear dampers separately. As a precaution check the charging rate as when they over charge they can cause the radio to switch off, as well as the airbag light to come on and eventually the battery to cook itself taking the ECU with it. The bit that holds the exhaust mount on is like a big circlip, it pushes on and springs into the recesses, can't remember the part number, they are about 30p.

Yes, fordfan is almost certainly right here. A 20 mins drive in summer (even a 5 mins drive) should send the temp gague to the halfway mark (around 90 C). With a new stat you'll most likely notice that the engine runs smoother and an increase in MPG.

Went out to the car this morning with the watering can, dry morning here so started and revved normally. Sprinkled some water round the coil pack and a few seconds later the rough idle and revving started. The water's getting in at the join between the metal and plastic parts of the coil pack. Not sure where to go next - whether this can be sealed or if a new coil pack is needed!

If you can spare the time and the cost of a tube of epoxy there can't be any harm in trying out the cheap fix suggested by Marc Gallagher

Otherwise it shouldn't be impossible to find a coilpack at the nearest scrappie.

Hi,

just got a new felicia and wanted to change my thermostat over from a SPI engine to a MPI engine as i replaced it when i bought my first one. Just wondered if its the same as the previous model, it looks the same, weren't sure if it required different sensors or anything fitting though

thanks in advance
