Skoda VRS uses oil

Featured Replies

I have a 57 plate VRS diesel and the oil level light came on after stopping the car for about 20 minutes and re-starting. It was still above the minimum level but I added about half a litre. At the end of the 2 1/2 hour return journey same scenario, the oil level light came on when re-starting having left the car for about 20 minutes. This time the oil level on the dip stick was mid way.

I have had the car tested by th elocal Skoda dealer who say the level sensor is OK. They recond the car will use about a litre of engine oil per 600 miles. This seems high. Is this level of oil use expected? Thanks in advance.:rotz:

Normal VAG guideline amounts for their current engines is upto 1L per 1000miles IIRC.

Check your handbook.

Thanks for the very quick reply. I did look but missed it. Teach me to wear my glasses.

Thanks again.

I have the 2.0 TDI in my Passat and it drinks the oil quicker than the diesel!!

Just keep an eye on it, it's a common thing apparently.

With My Golf depends on how I use it, generally only have to top up once or twice between services.

Did use 0.5 ltr each way when I drove the 980 miles to Austria; travelling time 20 hours and about 19 coming back 6 days later.

Just depends on individual circumstances and a bit of luck! Some cars seem to drink more than others.

Keep an eye on it, and a 1L top-up bottle in the boot and all will be well :)

I've done 7k in mine, and hasn't used a drop...i don't hang about either

I think if the car was used to the full extent of the rev range early on (after running in) it wore down any imperfections in the cylinders, therefore enabling the rings to give a better seal and not use oil later on. I did this with my 1.9 TDI and it never used a drop.

It's the long life secret plan. By the time your 20k mile service interval is due, you have already replaced all your oil, abet in 1L quantities every 4000miles ;)

Distance from min to max IIRC is 1.5L. Only had to dump extra in once, 2k before the first service @ 18k. 1L topped it backup.
