What stereo

Featured Replies

Alpine CDE-104BTi

Kenwood KDC-BT8044U

or the Parrot MK9200i which we currently have in another car

Annoyingly I wanted to use Pioneer as I have the ipod interface that I can't get rid of and an old changer, but Pioneer is a little bit over budget (£200) and the last one broke. 8400 just lost power shakehead.gif

Quite tempted with the Kenwood as we had one before and the way it worked really well with the ipod. Just wondered if anyone knew what the handsfree was like. The Parrot we have is brilliant but its a whole new unit on top of the current stereo and I would quite like to change the stereo as it doesn't have MW for the football whatever.gif

Everyone i've talked to says that Alpine have the best support for iPods, i've certainly used their units for years with no problem. I have the bluetooth, and its pretty good too.

I would take a CD of your favourite music, and have a listen in a car stereo place (halfords?). I find everyone prefers the sound of a different brand of stereo.

Me, everytime i buy a stereo from anywhere other than Alpine, i regret it.

I looked at the Halfords website and they dont show much. I wondered if they had dropped some of the big makes but I shall have a look at the weekend

They certainly dont have as much range as they used to have. That said, theres usually a fair amount in the price range your looking (well, if you deduct the halfords markup :D)

Take your phone, and play with the bluetooth, support seems to vary greatly between manufacturers :thumbdwn:

Got a viewty but only for a couple more weeks then I get an Iphone so I should imagine that would be ok? Least I would hope so, lol

Just searching for the best price for the ariel adaptor and wiring adaptor :D

I know most bluetooth devices only do minimal support for the iPhone.

Apple (as always) do things differently, and dont support all bluetooth phone features (address book sync, etc).

Im hoping to put my bluetooth adapter on my Alpine again this weekend (not got round to doing it on my car, as i've only had it a little while), so i'll report back on sunday about the compatibility if it helps?

That would be brilliant as the other option, Parrot MK9200i supports the iphone and works really well with all the features

If you have the standard vRS symphony headunit, then it does have MW and LW reception, so you can get 5 live and Radio4 on LW.

oh:uglyhamme

should have more of a play with the stereo

The button you need to use is labeled "A/F", press to switch between FM1/FM2/AM1/AM2. When in the AM mode when you drop below the lower end of the MW range you go onto LW.

The Kenwood or Alpine would both suffice, but we went with Alpine for the OH's car.

The 104 works well with the Iphone (3GS) and sounds very good indeed.

The phone menu is very intuitive and easy to use, where as on the Kenwood it is a pain to get into the phonebook.

I'd go for Alpine.

Just had a play with the 103 in Halfords so we have decided to go with the Alpine. Now to find the cheapest place for that aswell as all the other bits :( LOL

Fitted my Alpine 103BT yesterday, pretty pleased with it, only difference from 104 is its in black rather than grey and did not come with Ipod cable (another £20...).

Ipod connector sitting in shelve above climate and mic for phone on steering column which is hidden and was hell of a lot easier to root rather than on door pillar.

Sound quality on phone is good, much better than others I have used and ipod plays great, relatively easy to browse Artist/Album etc.

Sound quality seems good but I need to have a fiddle as I am thinking it should be more bassy. I am running it through some Infinity 6010cs's but no sub.

BTW - I got my 103bt from Pixmania.co.uk @ £154 (bargin) - http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/3022832/art/alpine/cde-103bt-cd-mp3-usb-blue.html but its out of stock, I had to wait 2 weeks for mine.

Malc, thanks for that. I was looking at the 103 as it came with all the same bits apart from the ipod connector but I have managed to get a brand new 104 from bachu on here so going down that route now :)

My choices for the mic are either by the interior light or A pillar as you can usually run it along the door sill instead of removing the pillar

Loom and ariel adaptor ordered from ebay for £11 something

Just called Skoda and they said £3 for just the facia or £15 for an installation kit????

What has everyone else gone for, he mentioned something about having issues with just the £3 facia. Makes me wonder if he wants me to spend more
