Perfect end to a holiday (not). Electric window stuck down :(

Featured Replies

Yesterday, I came back from canoeing, pressed the down button on the passenger side front window & when it reached the bottom it made a nasty grinding sound and wouldn't go up again.

On the camp site today, two friends and I took the door card off to see what was going on. For some reason the cable that pulls the window up and become tangled around the pulley and was in a huge mess. Took the regulator off and the pulley inside had lost a lot of it's thread.

So I really would like to replace the pulley cog in the regulator & cables. Can I do this?

Or do I need to acquire a whole new regulator just for that cog and where can I get these cables?

If I take it to a garage (bearing in mind it's in pieces already) how much am I looking at (the glass is fine by the way).

Finally, what's a Skoda Master Mechanic and is there one near Bristol? :) I want to keep this cheap and avoid a stealership where possible. :D

Thanks!!!

The whole regulator. It's a £40 part and takes about an hour.

Hi Mate,

I have heard a lot of good reports of http://www.streetwise-automotive.co.uk/ I have not had to use them yet but will do when required. I understand that they do a good job at a fair price. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys,

Actually I just found this on flea-bay, do you think this would do it? Has the cables and the pulley cog!! Only £14.78 + £2.00 P&P

Ebay link

Theshipscat, do they do repairs? It seems they just do power tuning/MOT's etc? If not, where can I get a regulator for $40 Babs?

Thanks

Yes they do repairs, If you do a search on here putting Bristol Garage in the search box there will be a thread.

Does anyone think the above ebay item would be suitable for this situation?

For the faff that it'll take, I'd sooner get the whole regulator mate!

Not sure that would have done it, the pulley cable was off the pulley!
