Turbo Whistle

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've got an 06 Fabia VRS with 35k miles on the clock. Is it normal for the turbo to have a constant loud whistle on idle? On power between 2k-3k revs it makes a loud screech noise as well which doesnt sound all that healthy. I was convinced it was a boost leak I had on my EGR but my local VAG speicalist has changed an O-ring inside it which was apparently causing it.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

doesnt happen on mine..

My VRS on 30k makes a very obvious whistle on idle and while it is spinning up, but no screetching - it's just the brakes that do that!

i can hear a very slighty whistley noise if i leave it idling 1-2 minutes, other than that no.

tbh I don't hear much whistling when giving it beans, I only really hear it when coming off the power and decelerating in gear... unless thats something else lol

Make sure you don't confuse the screeching as being the turbo, until you have checked the aux drive belt, tension pulley, alternator and aircon pump. Turbo whistle is normal, a screeching turbo will most likely go bang quite soon.
