Door fascia splitting

Featured Replies

I've had my Octavia 4x4 1.9 tdi estate for over three years, purchased from new. My usual driving position involves me resting my RH elbow on the door, just below the window (note: both hands still on the driving wheel!), where the fascia is "spongy". In the last few months, a 3cm dent has appeared where my elbow rests, which does not go away (ie, it does not "re-form" itself). Two small splits in the grey material have also just appeared too.

Is there any way to stop the split enlarging itself, viz a glue or similar thing?

Thanks for any help.

I have the same thing, same cause. I have modified the way I drive so as to not put any more stress on the door card. Mine has been there for more than 12 months and doesnt seem to be getting any worse.

i had the same on mine . The dealer replaced it under warranty

Same on mine, except now it has split.

Does anyone have an idea how much it costs to replace (parts/labour)?

Thanks for the replies - and for the conformation that it happens to others too.

New driving position, it'll have to be.

It's not brilliant, 'tho.

Had mine replaced under warranty earlier in the year (about 45k?). Done about 10k since then, and no sign of it recurring yet.

I'd be careful about resting my elbow on the door - the side airbag is supposed to pass between you and the door in a crash.

I have the same and am trying to source a replacement but getting no joy. Anyone know a part number? Im guessing it will be a pain to replace the door card.

How about injecting some superglue via a syringe and pressing it back down?

Injecting an adhesive might do the trick but you have to ensure you choose the correct type. Superglue may not be suitable as it doesn't stick well to many types of plastics. One specifically designed for the type of material or possibly a contact adhesive may be better.

I tried to repair my damage by inserting some foam and regluing the section down but its poor tbh. I was thinking if I heated the vinyl with a hairdryer if this may shrink it back?
