Maxidot Retrofit - Hants area

Featured Replies

Hello all

Possibly looking at picking up a Maxidot pod for my Vrs from Skodateile - currently going for around £223 - is this any good?

If so anyone know of anywhere in the South who can retrofit them? Have done a search on here but can't seem to find any.

Cheers

VRStu is a bit of a whizz at these things ;)

The physical fit is extremely easy - seriously, pull off the trim and one unit in one unit out.

You'll want somebody with VagCom to do some coding to clean things up.

Cool - didn't think it'd be that easy. Think my brother has Vagcom for his Audi A3 but he's in the Midlands - will have to check when he's down next.

Do you need to be a genius with it or is there a thread explaining what needs doing?

It'll need to VCDS as far as I am aware due to the CAN BUS. What age is his A3?

Pretty sure it's an 08 but I'll check with him.

VRStu is your man in the south.

Get someone who know what they are doing, as select the wrong VCDS option and your dashpod could be ruined. The VCDS process involves writing down all the settings currently stored in the dashpod, including such things as mileage (recorded internally in kms), miles to next service, service regime, key immobilser codings and so on. If you get the mileage wrong, then your basically stuffed as it can only be entered once.

Good advice from Mannyo.

Have a look at the dealer list on here.

Skoda Dealers in the South and South East Skoda Dealers in England - Skoda Dealers in the South and South East at BRISKODA.net - BRISKODA - The Skoda Forums

If you get a dealer to do it, yes it will be more expensive but if they **** it up, then they have to pay for it to be done again, which means it costs them & not you.

As mannyo stated, you need to get someone who knows the system really well or a pro to do it.

Will require the 4 digit secret key code SCK for the current unit to program the new one. VCDS will not provide this. Try Vagcan Commander 5, or the dealer if their nice to you, or I think it's printed on the plastic tab of the spare key.

Actual mechanical fit is easy. it's software re-coding that requires the correct tools.

Many dealers won't do it, or may try it and then charge you when they fail (ask Brimma).

VAG CAN Commander 5 is a rip of off the proper tool. Be VERY wary of using it as the clones can screw a lot of things up.

I have the correct (legitimate) tools to extract SKCs if you do not have it. A dealer cannot provide you with it.

Your SKC is usually on the large plastic tag on your spare key, if you still have it.

I am so sorry!!!

Please ignore my post from above!!!

For some reason I read MFD3 and not MaxiDot - god only knows what I was thinking!!

No, it isn't quite as straight forward to do as one out one in.

A dealer will usually do one for an hours labour - however please avoid AutoHaus as they managed to take more than an hour and get my car stuck in an infinte test loop of doom.

As above, so long as you have the original SKC (4 digit code on the original keyring) and the SKC for the new dash insert then it can be done with VCDS. If you don't have the SKC's then you either need a dealer or an extraction tool as mentioned by Ben.

Cheers for the advice guys. Think I may go down the stealer route as if they balls it up I guess it's up to them to sort!
