A few weeks ago I was forced to change my 2000 vauxhall vectra, and having done a little research decided to go for an used Octavia estate. I originally wanted to go for a diesel, but finally I went for a low mileage 2006 octavia elegance estate with a 1.6 FSI engine. I am quite happy with driving this good looking machine. However, browsing the web I have seen quite a few mixed reviews on this particualr engine and now I noticed that Skoda discontinued this engine. I couldn't see a lot of comments on this site about this engine. The 1.6 FSI engine is supposed to be a frugal engine, although I am not too sure about this. My trip computer regularly shows an average mpg of more than 40 but the last time I got petrol I calculated my mpg to be more closer to ~ 33. Personally I feel that the drive is fine, but I hope to test the car further by towing a caravan, albeit a small one, by the end of this week! I am keen to hear experiences from other octavia 1.6 FSI drivers. Cheers.

Thanks for your welcome! I haven't as yet received any response regarding the 1.6 FSI engine; I guess this isn't a popular choice among the Biskoda members! How could I possibly improve my mpg (apart from my driving style). Would super unleaded help? Thanks. Best wishes!
