Do you have a FL Octavia & Xenons?

Featured Replies

I'm trying to find out if the FL Octavia has single or bi-xenons (obviously as an option) and as none of the dealers have a definitive answer then I thought I'd ask if someone who has got them on their car could let me know.

If they were 'bi' then it would be twice as many reasons to spec them wouldn't it! :)

Dunno where you live, but I can tell you on Australian spec FLs the xenons are definitely bi and they're AFS as well.

Hmmm. Good to know that they 'should' be bi but moving to Oz to ensure that happens will be a bit of a strain on the resources

I've updated the sig now so you can see I'm a fair bit away from you!

They are not bi-xenon but they are AFS on "Norwegian spec" cars. Everyone thought they were bi-xenon before the facelifted cars arrived, we then found out that they didn't have the shutter mechanism inside the lamp that the bi-xenon equipped cars have got.

I've just ordered one with Xenons, dealer said they were bi xenon but won't know for sure until it arrives, it does have ALS though.

Weird! The brochure just says " Xenon headlights and AFS 11". However in the Golf GTI brochure it says Bi-Xenon dipped and main beam headlights. I suppose Skoda could be using a cheaper option!

Pretty sure its single xenon only on the Octy.

Excuse me ignorance, but what is AFS II?

Ta.

Advanced lighting system, the beam turns with the wheel and also the beam gets longer/shorter depending on your speed

Disassembled my swdish spec Oct Ele Estates headlights. Found one of the ballasts not to be completely fastened. Xenon D1S dipped and Halogen H1 main beam.

A few photos added, sorry for the poor quality.

Now that's what I call going the extra mile to help out - if only your car had been the GB spec though........;)

I can't imagine the swedish spec being single xenon and the UK being bi-xenon, I suspect UK will indeed be Xenon for Dipped beam only and will use the H1 for main beam as per the standard headlights.

Time to order some Upgrade H1 bulbs I think :)

The must be someone how has a FL Octavia with Xenons on the forum, maybe we can ask them?

I find having a standard set of Xenons perfectly adequate, I get flashed occasionally & the person who flashes doesn't like it when I go to HIGH BEAM!

I know the headlights are correctly aligned they've been checked twice.

Personally I don't see the need to have Bi-Xenons it's just more to go wrong, a Xenon headlight is expensive enough as it is.

In Spain, my Combi/Estate only single xenon and AFS II, not bi-xenon :(

Only the superb has bi xenons.

Hi guys I have a FL octavia vRS with Xenons just to confirm mine doesn't have Bi-Xenon headlights, only dipped Xenon with AFS II.

I haven't done much night driving with main beams so cant really comment on how good they are.

Having only Lo beam Xenons was the biggest disapointment of my Octy (pre-FL), particularly when the brochures said "Bi-xenon". It must be something imposed by VAG as aprt of their "brand differentiation", as surely it would be cheaper to use a Golf lens unit (which is bi-exon) in the Octy light as well, rather than develop a separate Lo beam only Xenon unit for the Octy.

Dunno where you live, but I can tell you on Australian spec FLs the xenons are definitely bi and they're AFS as well.

Have you tried one at night ? It is difficult to tell for sure during the day.

interesting topic..I pre ordered my 56 plate Octy Vrs to have xenons and they are only single, I wasnt given an option for Bi. I thought they would be Bi as I didnt know about them..

cheers

hello guys

i have an octavia fl 2009 , the new shape, i was suffering from xenon set very high , that is illuminating the trees not ground, and not moving left ro right while turning.

when i start the engine the xenon dance is not only up and down , but also left right

same as for Passat as i am having "AFS", so i visited a friend with passat having vag-com yesterday

we checked his " 09 cent. elec " we find that it was configured to be xenon with shutter without high beam assistance as he has bi xenon

when i checked my car we find in the same module an option xenon with shutter , and another xenon with shutter without high beam

i enabled the 1st one, then we checked for any fault code

now the xenon is moving left and right while turning at speeds above 10 km/h

and everything is fine , but am still convinced that i dont have bixenon.

i am totally confused

No you dont have bixenon. No Octavia does.

yes that's what i know , so y is the xenon working now as it should after enabling the xenon with shutter

just wondering if there was a way you could fit them to octys II or if it be too much or impossible.

On the subject of Bi and the fact that the Octys don't have them. Does anyone know if it would be possible to upgrade the H1 main beam to a xenon (i was kind of thinking a 50w unit - yes i know the legal implications). I have heard however that xenons don't like being switched on and off all the time though?

R.

Seems poor to me as the optional Xenons in the Seat range are all Bi-Xenon for £730. Surely it must be cheaper for the VAG group to supply the same unit to all brands
