1.4 engines with piston ring wear

Featured Replies

Having got a bill over around £1000 to have piston rings and associated parts replaced, iwas wondering how many other fabia 1.4 16v owners have been suffering with the same problem. My Fabia mk1 has covered 45k miles full dealer service history all levels are checked weekly (sad i know), the engine code affected is AUB. Skoda uk have said no to any help of payment (according to dealership).I am going to contact SKODA UK TODAY MYSELF.

If you know of any owners WHO HAVE SUFFERED IN A SIMILAR WAY PLEASE LET ME KNOW BY EITHER PM OR REPLY TO THIS MSG, if i can get sufficient numbers Skoda UK might sit up and realise theres a problem with THIS AUB engine...After all SKODA DRIVERS ARE HAPPY DRIVERS according to them...:(

I was diagnosed with the same problem, but the dealer, with a straight face, said that there was no history of such a problem. Skoda Uk fobbed me off with a "out of warranty" excuse and left it to the dealer.

Only by the good graces of this excellent forum stopped me from shelling out the money. The actual problem was a blocked crankcase breather / airbox valve...(Do a search)

1.4 16v AUB engines DO have a problem with the rings, but good luck getting Skoda to do anything about it.

While I'm here, has anyone had a problem with the 1.4 16v AUB misfiring during damp conditions? Mine does and it goes onto three cylinders. After a good run, and a rest of about 5 minutes (fuel stop), it runs perfectly. I have replaced the plugs, leads and ignition unit, but when it rains, back it comes. Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Euan

There is a thread on here about the realibabilty of these engines.

I have one myself which is just shy of 100,000 miles and the piston rings are going judging by the plumes of blue smoke. As said, despite being an inherant design fault SUK don't seem to be too willing to pay out based on what others have said.
