sticky hand brake

Featured Replies

:(Hi boyoz my new superb s when I have come to drive away in the morning into gear hand brake down car will not move until i give it some wellie, the only thing i can think of is i tend to wash very often and i think because its new and not much wear its oxidizing to the discs on the back:confused: and when i drive away it stuck fast but once the discs are shining its fine no sticking:rofl:

I don't think there is a problem with you washing the car very often,I do the same.Maybe you just pull the lever very hard and that's causing the problem. For me,2 clicks are enough to keep the car even on a pretty dangerous slope.

This is the cause, so when you've washed it, whizz it round the block so that using the brakes dries them off before you park it up.

Ray.

As Ray says, quick run round block to dry off discs.

If you wash car and leave discs wet just look at discs next morning before driving off.

They will go red rusty overnight. Pads will stick to discs. Discs will soon get pitted/rough and the brake pads will wear very fast.

Too much pressure washing can wash off the lubrication on the handbarake and sliding caliper mechanism, then you will have problems.

 Be careful :rotz: A friend of mine did 2 clicks left the car on a slope (Octavia Mk 2) and after awile it rolled backwards and hit a Ford Mondeo (cracked his rear lense but made a right mess of the front end of the Ford!). apparently if the discs are warm/hot when they cool the pads can release from the discs!. so 3-4 clicks for me on a slope and engage reverse!;)

Does the handbrake operate on the disc?? They usually use a small drum inside

Didn't think Skoda used separate drum handbrake on their models.

Mine seems the same as my old Mk 1.

I dont know thats why i asked the question but i thought most Golfs had seperate systems for handbrakes

Had similar happen to me with my old SEAT Leon, ever since always parked in gear!

No, VAG handbrakes don't have a seperate mechanism.

If it's a level drive leave the handrake off and put it in gear.

In gear and 2 clicks seems OK and you can see the mark on the discs so until they wear down a bit ill use this method:thumbup:
