Hi guys, I've just changed a front wheel bearing on my Vrs and Jesus - the hub nut was seriously tight. Managed to loosen it with a 2 foot breaker bar with a scafolding pipe attatched. What torque should these be done back up to as the Haynes manual makes no sense :thumbdwn:. The quality of the haynes manuals is quite poor now I think.

It mentions 4 stages.

1st - tighten to 166 lb foot

2nd - turn hub at least 90 degrees

3rd - tighten to 37 lb foot

4th - angle tighten 60 degrees.

What were they smoking? It doesn't say but I'm guessing after stage 2 to nut should be loosened again? If so 37lb/ft plus 60 degrees does not seem tight enough compared to what it was.

when i did my front wheel bearings i just did them up with my air gun(tight as poss!) that was 15k ago & all is well. it will be 166lbft then turn nut through min 90 degrees(dont undo nut!) then 37lbft then a further 60 degrees.

Thanks Mikey. I ended up just doing it as tight as possible with a breaker bar. It won't be falling off that's for sure!

Yeah, VFT is a good idea for hub nuts.
