Hi all, trying to find out what would be the better choice of Octavia mats. Have heard in certain quarters that the cloth/velours don't last long.

What are your experiences, which would be the better choice?

Many thanks all in advance.

I've had both types over the years. No difference, they both wear through in about a year.Carpet types look better and catch more grit rubber types are cheaper.

Good quality carpet type mats can last a long time.

I have a set supplied with my last company car, 2 years in CC, 7 years in own Honda Civic and now 3 years in my Octy and the drivers mat is still going strong - it has a double thickness carpet heal pad which has not even worn through the first layer yet.

Best mats I never bought.

Thanks gregoir, Octavia5 & simbo99.

Much appreciated your comments.

@Gregoir, is the wearing out of the mats in a year, your experience with Octavia OEM mats? And if so what is your annual mileage?

@Octavia5, the mats you've got in your Octy, are they the Octavia OEM mats? And if so, are they the same as the new ones being supplied now, or have they gotten cheaper?

Reason I'm asking guys, is that the dealer has thrown in OEM carpet mats, so want to find out if I chose the right ones or should I have asked for rubber OEM?

Over in Germany, they seem to prefer rubber..... nothing out of the norm there for them.:D

Joking aside though, they say the rubber OEMs last a long time, but the velour cloth ones wear through in 3 months or so. Having said that, the part numbers seem to be different in their accessories brochures from ours.

Many thanks again to all.

Unless your a farmer, rubber mats are rubbish. As Simbo99 points out, if your shoes are wet or contaminated from forecourt deisel at best you can easly end up on your a** , at worst your foot slips off the pedal...............:(. I drive 100,000 miles a year in many different makes/models of car and havent found a decent rubber mat yet.

Carpet mats in my old B5.5 Passat and my recent Hyundai Coupe. Both wore where my left shoe heel rubbed (size 12). Was doing 18,000 miles pa when I wore the Passat mats out.Mileage less when I owned Coupe but down to canvas in 18 months.

Only got the Octavia one month ago and mats look pretty thin.Pile wearing visibly already, again where heel rubs.

But they fit well and look OK.

Mor added re Octavia.

Getting away from the durability issues, is it me or does anyone else find that the carpet mats when in use lift from the anchoring pegs far too easily ?. On other cars I've had, the pegs had a locking system of some sort but with the Skoda ones, or at least mine, the mat apertures just sit over the anchoring pegs and tend to spring off when in use. Probably my big feet!

So the Cloth/Velours are pretty poor quality then.

Will they last longer than a year or so?

Cloth looks filthy when the tiniest amount of dirt gets on them and can't be hosed off. With quality rubber ones I have taller edges, so no spills, and they're clean and almost dry in 2 minutes with any garden hose.

If it's snowing I don't even need that, I just rub them face down in the snow then shake clean.

Of course, I live in a very dirty, not 100% paved 3rd world country, but still in the EU, so I am biased.

anthracite imo

Cloth mats get all full of grit and fluff up in places and curl up at the edges and get smelly when wet.I got rubber mats with grip underneath and don,t slip about annd haven,t worn out in the last 2 years i have had them in both my octavias

My genuine skoda carpet mats wore a hole through after 60k miles which isn't too bad a lifespan.

That said , some halfords ripspeed ones I had for the Mk1 octy lasted 83k with no hole.

@Taxi291 & sebulbus, did you both have the original Octavia OEM rubber mats?

@vrsadz - Do you have the Octavia Anthracite OEM mats fitted? If so, what's your experience with them?

Thanks again lads for your help.

I've never had any problems but always buy genuine manufacturer ones.

I'd say cloth ones - look better, genuine ones fit properly and stay where they should and I never have a problem cleaning them. I've never worn through a set, but maybe I don't keep my cars long enough? :rubchin: ;)

@Taxi291 & sebulbus, did you both have the original Octavia OEM rubber mats?

No they weren,t OEM mats but they came with the car from new from The Taxi Centre in Scotland.Very hard wearing and always look like new but had to cut the drivers mat to fit in the MK2 Octy around the floor mounted accelerator pedal.

I prefer rubber mats - very easy to be kept clean, washable, dry fast, do not soak water, do not smell bad

Cons - cheap look

I paid extra for the "factory" rubber mats, and put the brand new unused carpet ones away for when I eventually sell the Octy. I sometimes get in the Octy with muddy boots, so carpet wasn't at all practical (and they do feel pretty flimsy). The rubber ones seem pretty durable so far (1 year, 8,000Km, mostly short trips so lots of getting in and out), but they do drift from their locating pegs sometimes.

If I had to buy a new set I'd buy rubber mats again.

I'm wondering which mats to get for my Octavia if/when I get it. I've had factory fitted carpet mats in my Passat for 11 years/ 72,000 miles and the drivers one is showing a small patch of wear where my heel rests but otherwise they're still in very good condition. I do clean them occasionally with a pressure washer if they get really dirty and they do take a few days to dry. If I can't source some Ivory coloured ones before I get the car then I'll see if the ones in the Passat will fit until I can get some more suitable ones.

I have also got some good quality rubber ones too but I only use these rarely such as if I'm picking my daughter up after she's been horseriding and I'm in my car rather than my wife's.

Rubber mats for the winter, carpet mats for the summer...

I have a pair of original Skoda carpet mats - after 2+ years and 38K miles, they are wearing really well - far better than the BMW ones I had in a previous...well, BMW!

Cloth here; the rubber set I had in my Rover wore really badly and were slippy as hell. They were good in the winter though when it was wet and such.

With modern car ventilation systems carpet mats in the winter dry quite quickly on a reasonable length journey I find.

I haven't seen the Skoda rubber mats but most car makers look a bit rubbish!

A few people seem to be really happy with their cloth Octavia OEM mats.

Does anyone know how long the new OEM mats have been around? Whether they are the same quality as some of the older ones?

I have just added the cloth ones to mine (came without them as previous owner must have taken them!) and the quality feels extremely good
