strange noise!!!

Featured Replies

I have a 90 bhp octy and when pulling away in first gear I get a sort of graunch/rattle noise from the front of the car.It sounds not unlike a loose heatshield ,but ive checked all the shields and they are ok. Someone told me it could be a worn gearbox mounting so ive got one coming and hopefully it will cure it.Then someone else told me it could be the drivebelt tensioner and the ribbed belt . Could this make the noise mentioned if they are failing as I can feel it through the pedals and the steering and it only does it when pulling away in first, and at all other times is fine. I know its difficult to pinpoint a noise without actually hearing it ,but any help would be appreciated .The car has done 135 k by the way . T hanks in advance.:thumbup:

Try pulling away in 2nd. Does it still make the noise?

Is it every time you pull away, or just the first time?

:bump::bump:

Hard trying to pinpoint these sorts of things.

Hows the clutch? as you say you feel it through the pedals.

I would have thought a mounting would make a knocking noise :confused:

Hope you sort it ok.
