Bonnet lifters

Featured Replies

Been covered a couple of times this but not recently. Does anyone know of a decent source for bonnet lifters suitable for the Octy? A quick look on ebay today did not turn much up and I'm not sure I want to pay £58 for milotec ones.

Anyone got any they can recommend?

I got mine for £19 from ebay at the start of this year, can't remember the name of the seller though :o

Were they specified as for the Octy? I can find loads for the Golf but few Octy ones. More to the point though. Do they work? Easy to fit?

mine were listed for the octy, piece of **** to fit

If you can get some ball studs you can actually fit the Fabia boot struts.

I got mine from superskoda.com wasnt the best to fit but there on now and look smart. Cant mind the cost tho

Yeah they were specified for the Octy.

Not as easy to fit as I thought. You will need bigger washers than the ones supplied in the kit to go at the bottom end of the strut to spread the weight a lot more otherwise they will bend the lips at the edge of the engine bay out of shape.

You also need to drill and tap holes between the two bonnet hinge bolts to take the top end of the struts as you can't just remove one of the bonnet bolts and stick the strut in there, because the head on the strut isn't at the right angle.

I'd heard that rumour too. I guess at £12 inc postage I can probably take a chance. Anyone else used the mk3 golf struts?

Cheers,

Had my last set off that chap for my astra and they were great apart from turning rusty in places.

I was told that i could cover them in Vaseline or similair or cover them with a couple of coats of laquer before fitting.

Ps the quality of the INXX stuff is very good

Yeah that's the problem :(

Will be waiting for the report, hope it will fit.

Well.. The Mk3 Golf ones don't fit straight off. It might be possible to modify the top mounting bolt as in the link in the post above, or bend the end of the strut itself. Will have another look! :D

Me being thick

Well after a couple of seconds' gentle tapping with my fixing hammer, voilà!

Ten quid well spent I think!

Update - after the dyno day I attended on Saturday my bonnet lifters no longer lift or hold up the bonnet!

Not sure if they somehow closed the bonnet too quickly or something, or just the vibrations damaged them somehow.

So not the best - lasted nearly 3 months.

Rob, mine did the same after about 12 lifts  . If you can drill & tap a hole for the ball stud, at a more horizontal angle, centre of the two torx screws , you will be able to use the fabia tailgate struts  Actually you will only need to use one, with both It will be too stiff ;)
