Engine vibration after service

Featured Replies

Just had my vRS CR 170 serviced for the first time (18500 miles) and on return from the dealers there is now an annoying vibration/ resonance coming from the engine through the pedals and seat. It is especially bad around the 1500rpm mark when stationary but you can feel it throughout the rev range when driving. I have been impressed up until now by the CR's smoothness but it now feels like my old diesel mondeo.

Not pointing any fingers yet, this could just be a coincidence with the service.

It has been back to dealers today for an hours quick looksy but although they agree something is'nt right they cant figure it out. Going back in next week for a full day and hopefully a solution. Any ideas in the mean time????????

Engine cover not put back on right? A honda dealer did that too me a few years back, they had too many 16y YTS....

Thanks James, I wish it was, I did think of that and tried removing it completely but the vibration is still there. Dealer has also looked at the undertray, thinking it had'nt been fitted back properly after the service, but again no joy. It kind of sounds like a very small blow or loose baffle in the exhaust, but I suppose it could be anywhere really.

Thanks

Jon

The air filter case may not be closed correctly

they may of ragged the daylights out of it and ruined your DMF.

The engine cover below the car not re-fitted correctly?

Thanks, yeah I though about that, as they remove the plastic undertray for a minor service, however after I suggested this to the service manager, the tech got the car on the ramp and I would guess they would have checked this out??????

Keep 'em coming, I reckon we'll have it sorted before it goes back in next week!!!!!

What about the wheels? Again Mr Honda dealer and his YTS's a few years back for me just put the wheels back on rims without aligning or balancing the things! but that didn't give a vibrations but i guess it could?

Looks like it could be an engine/mechanical issue as a couple of people on this site with the new Superb with same CR170 engine have had similar problems one at 2000 miles the other at 14000 with a harsh vibration between 1200-1600 rpm which feels a bit like a loose exhaust baffle/shield, this happens whilst stationary and on the move and makes the engine feel as rough as a badgers. Am awaiting an update on their fixes (if any !!) as the post doesn't state an outcome.

If it "needs" a new engine just ask for your money back!

Still no idea what could be causing this, help!!!!!!!!

Did they update the ECU? maybe upset things if they have.

If not have they tried reloading ECU software? This worked on my previous PD Golf.

Dirty fuel could be another issue. Wife's Corsa CDTI was running rough recently after filling with supermarket fuel, been much better after last 2 fill ups using Totals premium diesel.

Hope you get it sorted.

Thanks, have only used BP Ultimate since I've had the car from new and have refuelled about 3 times since but with no change. I did think about if they had monkeyed around with the ECU but it sounds/feels more mechanical than anything and with other CR170 owners suffering the same without the service I think maybe something has worked loose. Funny thing is it doesnt seem to happen when the car is cold, unless its my imagination. Hopefully the dealer will sort it on thurs, as I'm not accepting it back until it's fixed !!!!!

I assume there a vacuum return line from the solenoid valves to the air filter on the CRs. Maybe they broke the hose connection off the airbox. This happens a lot with other diesel Octavias.

Quick update, car went into the dealers last thursday for the day and despite agreeing that there is a problem they still hav'nt got a clue what is causing it let alone how to fix it. They have sent a recording to Skoda of the problem and are awaiting their suggestions. One week on and still hav'nt heard anything from Skoda so I assume they are stuggling too. Oh happy days!!!!!

I'd ask them to take apart and put back together again all the parts they moved during the service...

Hello i was wondering how you got on with this ? As i am having the Exact same problem in my fabia ?

Unfortunately Paul it appears to be a generic problem with the CR170 engine, as of yet Skoda is unable to pin point the problem let alone fix it. My dealer is currently working on 3 cars with the same problem with this engine. If they come up with a fix I will post it on here. Good luck.
