starting problems/fuel related felicia

Featured Replies

felicia 1.3 2000 petrol

having replaced both ignition barrel and starter motor the car will just not start.

if fires up only to cut out after a second. i have taken off what i presume to be the fuel lead to the carb and its dry also the lead into what i presume to be the fuel filter (next to the battery)?? is also dry

does anyone know if the electrical connection (to start the fuel pump) is situated on the ignition barrel??? could be i have mis-wired it or it has come loose somewhere although i cant see anything obvious

failing that it may be the fuel pump itself (bit of a coincidence barrel/starter/fuel pump) all going at the same time though?

lastly where is the fuel pump

thanks in advance

If you are using a different key with the new barrel you will need the little chip from the old key in the new key as it sounds like the immobiliser isn't disarming due to not having the correct chip in the key.

Prise the key apart with a small screwdriver or knife (I can pull mine apart with my fingers) and then carefully replace the little black chip near the top of the key with the one from the old key.

have pulled both my old keys apart but no sign of any kind of chip in it ???

Ah right. I thought all felicia's were fitted with an immobiliser.

Have you checked the fuel pump relay and fuse as it seems like the pump isn't pumping anything.

Also... is there fuel in the tank??!! :P Sounds silly but you never know!

plenty fuel yeah

fuse seems ok 15a (no 4 )

i have read that the fuel pump wires become trapped by lifting/dropping the back seat?? something i have done a bit of latley.time to check that now

do you know where the fuel pump is ??

also where is the fuel pump relay ?? fuse box ??

thanks

Yeh relay is in the fuse box. Not sure off the top of my head which.

I believe the fuel pump is on top of the tank so under the back seats. There is access under the carpet under the seats through a little removable panel. Might be worth checking wires to it etc.

will try and find the relay and also strip the back seat out. would seem a hell of a coincidence for barrel/starter and fuel pump or relay to go at the same time though.

everything i have read on here leads me back to the key/barrel but not even a sign of a chip in the key supplied with the barrel i bought either.

well all seems ok with them. still point towards immobiliser/key problems dealerships are not too helpfull. ''we can recover your car for £120 and check the key/immobiliser for £62 + vat''. yeah i bet you can

further update for anyone re future reference

spoke to another skoda dealer who was very helpful. he has told me just to get an auto elec to disarm the immobiliser and it will be ok. that seems the solution as the car is w reg and therefore not worth a great deal obviously not recomended for anyone who has a more expensive vehicle.

the circular canister next to the battery is the charcoal filter for absorbing vapour from the fuel tank. the hose should be dry-ish.

attached to this canister at the back is 2 multipin plugs.. you can fire up the fuel pump relay by earthing pin 3 on the 6 pin plug (yes unplug it first) straight to the negative battery terminal with a short length of wire.. ( ignition also needs to be switched on).. using this method you can eliminate pump/relay problems..

tbh sounds more like an immo problem anyway

Cover the head of the new key with a few layers of foil, hold the head of the old key close the barrel and start the engine. If it fires up your new key will need coding to the immobiliser. The chip in the key looks like a rectangular cube of black plastic.
