Remaps, Which one and Skoda Used Warranty

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just put a deposit on a 05 Plate VRS Estate. Getting it from a Skoda Main Dealer with 1 years warranty.

3 Questions really:

1st - Which is the best/most reliable/smooth remap to go for if I decide I could do with a bit more power. Ideally somewhere around Essex or the South East spmewhere.

2nd -. Driving "normally" will it affect MPG much, I know it's not the same vehicle but after a Remap on my 53 Plate TD5 Discovery MPG increased by 10%!!

3rd - With the car having a warranty does anyone know if I will invalidate it. I suspect I will unless there is an "approved" conversion out there.

Cheers

Hewey

in answer to question number 2 its early days yet for me but i was say so far my experience is you use slightly less fuel if you drive normally if there is such a thing? but if you fancy having a lead foot for a while, then it probably uses slightly more fuel than before which to be honest i expected.

just to give you an idea, there were 4 golf gti's, a fabia vrs, a leon cupra, an an audi s3, and a 1000 bhp twin turbo converted ford gt that were all lined up ready for remap / engine modifications, so they no there stuff. Also the manager shaun actially races the seat leons and they are winning the championship at the moment and they have the same 1.8 20v turbo engine in them so i would say they are quite familiar with this engine

as for question 3 i cant help you there.

hope this is helps hewey, and hope all goes well for you wherever you take it

all the best

No need to quote original post.

As above. Mines booked in with AMD next week so will let you know. How long is your warranty for?

Also would have thought they would only be abe to aoid paying if the failure can be proven to have been caused by remap?

Guess the only way to find out for sure is the smal print.

Nick,

I have in front of me a copy of the Skoda Used Car Warranty booklet.

Section 14, Modification to the Vehicle says" ......if the vehicle is modified in any way, you should seek our prior approval and the work should be carried out by a retailer participating in the Skoda Used Car Warranty programme. In the event that a modification that was not approved by us contributes to a fault, we reserve the right to reject any claim.... in relation to that fault"

There are some other exclusions you might like to consider. These include:

damage caused by water ingress [which often causes door locking problems]

wiring and wiring looms [wiring connectors can be corroded by water in doors]

airbags

interior trim, seats, seat belts and pre-tensioners

So for the remap, go ahead but realise that any engine or transmission damage will probably not be covered as they will claim it is due to the re-map

Mike.

Cheers for the reply's guys.

Warranty will be for a year.

Will see how I get on with it then decide about the remap after a few months probably.
